While visiting friends in Pocahontas County, WV back in 1979 Edith McKinley fell in love with the area. She went home, packed up and headed north to make a new start in West Virginia. Edith had the idea of opening a health store. In the Fall of 1986, Edith’s Health and Specialty Store became a reality. Soon after “Edith’s Store” began to play a vital role in the Lewisburg community, inspiring an interest in wellness and nutrition for many locals.
Lindsay Jones was among those interested in the business. In 2002 she joined Edith’s team while still in high school. She spent the subsequent years at the store soaking up all the knowledge she could. With the ultimate goal of owning the health food business someday, Lindsay even pursued a degree in business from Bluefield State College. In January 2018, her dream was realized! Edith could finally relax and retire knowing her customers are in good, knowing, hands. Ms. Jones’ intention is to make the changing of hands as seamless as possible, especially for her customers.
Edith’s Store does not just sell a variety of quality products to support holistic health. The staff listens, educates and is available to recommend options to address customers concerns. There are a variety of locally produced goods as well. Beauty products, farm eggs and seasonal produce, artisan breads, local meats and more are available for those of us who like to “shop local”!
Lindsay, over the last 15 years accumulated a wealth of information about the products she sells and promotes. She says, “We pride ourselves in keeping up with the latest supplements. We conduct diligent research when deciding what products to be in the store.” She is passionate about enhancing the health of her customers!
Lindsay Jones is among the youngest and newest downtown merchants. Asked about her relationship to her peers she said this, “Amazing! I have had overwhelming support from the merchants as well as the whole community! I couldn’t do it without them.” She also commented that a website will be up and running soon.
The store itself is magical, sporting a two-story tree greeting you and incredible architectural features! The staff includes Lindsay’s right-hand woman, Danielle Greene. Danielle began working there 6 years ago and says this about her job, “It has been a pleasure working here and learning from both Edith and Lindsay.”
Two young women have also joined the staff recently and they are all eager to help you “Be Well”. Located at 1035 East Washington Street in downtown Lewisburg and open 7 days a week.
