Josiah Spangler and Abigail (Abby) Reynolds have been friends for several years. Through their mutual love for guitar and song writing, they’ve united to create the band, Marguerite & Company. Hear them live on Saturday, September 7th at 7pm, at the Wild Bean in downtown Lewisburg. (look right ->). This is a down-to-earth duo that expresses an ambient composition of vocal harmony and acoustic instruments. You will be entertained by this band’s energetic yet accessible style. Find out more about Marguerite & Company with our Q&A:
Who are the band members and what are your musical backgrounds?
Spangler: “I came from a musical family of singer songwriters and a wide variety of musicians. My natural instrument has always been drums and percussion. For about five years I’ve played drums in a number of bands my brother and sister have been a part of. But my father’s band (Mark Spangler) has always been the primary focus of my musical expression and the most dedicated, experience building group I have been a part of.”
Reynolds: “I have been singing for most of my life in choirs and solo performances. I started playing piano when I turned eight and was formally trained until I turned sixteen. I have always been the most comfortable using my voice as my main instrument and piano was a main focus of mine. Now I have moved on to guitar and enjoy playing and expressing myself through writing and performing.”
Where are you from? Where/how did you develop the band name, Marguerite? What’s is its significance?
We are both from West Virginia and have grown up on cattle farms in the surrounding area. The name “Marguerite” signified to us the elegance and quality of the music we wanted to create. “Marguerite” is Reynolds’ middle name and her great grandmother’s first name, so it showed us what the persona of our music should be. Grandmother Marguerite was selfless, thoughtful, and honest—that is what we both wanted our writing to be like and the kind of people we wanted to be individually while creating our music.
Do you have any music/videos streaming online?
