EVENT: Poor Farm Festival
WHEN: September 6 & 7
WHERE: Williamsburg, West Virginia
The 7th Annual Poor Farm Festival on September 6th and 7th has rounded out its main slate of musical acts, and they’ve put together an impressive program. The opening-night will include 6 bands including People’s Blues of Richmond and The Weight. The following day will feature at least 8 musical acts, starting at 2pm with Threesound, a band known for its “infectious grooves and harmonious melodies.” Here is everything else:
As with all Poor Farm Festivals, the music is the center of it all, starting on Friday night at 5pm with a classic American music band known as The Freeway Revival. The next act starts at 6pm whose Philadelphia based guitartist has been developing his unique and progressive sound for over 10 years. They are called: Dirk Quinn Band and they perform jazz, funk, and rock. Up next at 8:40pm is a rock, psychedelic, blues band out of Richmond called, The Peoples Blues of Richmond (PBR). At 10pm, a band that is quickly becoming the “band to watch” known as The Weight will bring you to your feet with their Grassroots, American Rock sound. Fallen Rock Band will play at 11:30pm and closing out the night at 12:45am is a band that is the punk rock version of the Grateful Dead, called SICMaN.
Working the club and coffee house circuit, Quinn became increasingly in demand playing as many as three gigs a day while getting the occasional call to share the stage with musical legends such as Booker T Jones – poorfarmfest.com
Saturday’s music series kicks off at 2pm with Threesound. The next band plays at 3:15pm and, according to the Huffington Post, they are one Brooklyn based act not to be missed, “After recently attending a bunch of concerts, I have discovered the following secret in life: Never miss… Food Will Win the War…” – Huffington Post. Up next at 4:30pm is a reggae and classic rock band, Rootz Rock. At 5:45pm, Maritime Station goes on stage and they are an Indie band that is also promoting their new record.
At 8:15pm, you’ll be entertained by a jamband that’s shared the stage with Collective Soul and Kid Rock, among many others. They are called Normal Bean and coming to you from Eugene, Oregon. Up next at 9:30pm is a soul, funk, rock blues band from New Orleans, called Royal Southern Brotherhood. This band features Devon Allman (son of Greg Allman) and is right now the “buzz” with a debut album. An Appalachian Roots Rock Ensemble from Virginia called, The Floorboards, performs next at 11:15pm. Concluding this year’s festival is a second performance by SICMaN at 12:30am.
Poor Farm Fest wouldn’t be the same without camping. This is a huge part of the experience and it’s free. There will be 2 separate campsites: “Night Owl” for the partiers and “Family Camp” for the sleepers.
There’s no showers or hook ups and no sleeping in your VW van. Attendees will be roughing it the way our great grandparents did in 1899, only this time there will be louder guitars. Also, we suggest you pack extra clothes as it may get cold during the night.
Stuart’s Smokehouse will be serving: $6 Brisket, $6 Pulled Pork $6, $5 Burgers, $2 Hot Dogs, $11 ½ Slab Ribs, and $20 Full Slab of Ribs. The Sides include: $3 Roasted Corn, $2 Potato Salad, $2 Cole Slaw, and $2 Baked Beans.
You can purchase tickets online at PoorFarmFest.com or at Neathawk Lumber in Lewisburg, WV. Admission is $50 for the weekend. and $25 for a single day. Children 12 and under are free.
Join us to experience history and great music, while enjoying the lush mountainside and starry nights at this year’s Poor Farm Fest.
