Many of us live for the thrill of finding a bargain in all forms – whether it be scoring at a yard sale, the flea market at WV State Fairgrounds, Cowboy Jim’s, or at Wolf Creek Gallery’s annual year-end sale to finally snag that top you’ve waited months for. There’s truly nothing that most of us love more than second-hand shopping and while some of us tend to get turned off by the semi-unorganized setting in used clothing stores or having to dig through racks and piles to find your size, let’s face it, we don’t have the patience to deal with the hit-or-miss nature of thrift store shopping. If you love higher-end consignments with a friendly smile, check out Livy’s Closet in downtown Clifton Forge. This is a locally owned, upscale consignment boutique that focuses on gently used clothing and accessories for women, as well as home décor and collectibles. It is on the main street, situated between Caffé Museo (a must visit espresso shop) and Country Garden Florist. This boutique seeks to create a local community through a shared love for style, sustainability, shopping local, and having fun!
“If you are in Clifton Forge, you must stop by! I guarantee you will find something you love!”– Hanna Boothe
This July marks the boutique’s 8th year in business and it has become one of the most popular local consignment shops in the area. Livy’s has built a reputation for having a broad, budget-friendly selection of brands including Ann Taylor, Michael Kors, Banana Republic, Cabela’s, Bulaggi, Dooney and Bourke, and Coach.
Owner Jennifer Oeltjen tells us she is a life-long resale shopper and is thrilled to bring her passion to the women of Allegheny County. She has always believed in the value of shopping local and supporting your neighbors. For her, connecting people with a way to help the environment and the people around her is a dream come true. She says, “Everyone should be free to be themselves. Personal style is one of the most important, changeable, and more exciting means of expressing oneself.” Shoppers will tell you that they regularly work with Jenny for the perfect look. It’s sort of like she was born to do this. So she is!
Shop local this summer season at Livy’s and save money while you make an impact! BONUS: Secondhand shopping eases the burden of the fashion industry while directly benefitting the local economy. Stop in during Clifton Forge’s 4th of July Celebration starting with a parade at 12:30p throughout historic downtown, with a special ceremony for our Veterans and First Responders after the parade. There will also be a street market with artisans and food vendors all day.
Find “Livy’s Closet” on facebook for updated inventory and if you are interested in learning more about how her consignment process works, visit livysclosetcliftonforge.com. Livy’s is located at 507 Ridgeway St. For more information, call 540-865-0373.
