Nestled in the breathtaking hills of Greenbrier County, the Third Annual West Virginia Renaissance Festival beckons you to take a step out of the present and into a world of times past — a world where knights spar for sport, lords and ladies grace the scene, and spectators celebrate in the spirit of revitalization and rebirth. In its historically recreated European village, you can partake in the merriment every weekend this month.  There will be artisans offering their handmade wares, bountiful foods and spirits, costuming, ironwork, caricature artists, face painting, musicians, hair braiding, henna, jugglers, and so much more! In addition to the vendors and entertainment, the event also boasts games of skill for patrons, a woodland maze, animal rides, dance classes, and some of the most magnificent scenery of the area.  And the Washing Well Wenches (featured on this month’s cover), will be waiting for you! HUZZAHHHH!!

New this year is Jim Mackenzi, a Vaudeville comedian with “mad skills”! Jim has been keeping vaudeville alive since 1985. You will witness his one-man comedy variety show showcasing juggling, sword swallowing, whip cracking, violin playing, all presented with a mix of comedy and danger. You can find him on the Blasted Tree Stage!

The Langer’s Ball will present Irish Folk-Punk from the Frozen Midwest. They deliver a thumping beat and a flurry of notes and harmonies. You’ll find yourself dashing to refill your drink and cheer for more! And local favorite Patrick O’Flaherty, a native Gaelic speaker and member of The Poor Clares, will be on hand to entertain you throughout the festival!

Come with an appetite for Swift Level Fine Grilled Meats, as well as kettle corn, chocolate-dipped cheesecake, turkey legs, scotch eggs, crepes, and chocolate-dipped bananas! Spirits will also abound on the festival grounds with Mountain Dragon Mazery, who will be offering their mead and fine honey wines that are made from honey but not so sweet! Hawk Knob Cidery will serve up their crisp traditional ciders and meads! Joshua Bennett with Hawk Knob tells us, “We are really looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s Renaissance Festival!” There will also be beer, lemonades, bottled water, and sodas.

The Knightwings are back this year! They are a traveling presentation of birds of prey presented by master falconer Ash Cary, who will talk about the importance of these birds in the ecosystem and their history in the sport of falconry.

The Duelists are also coming back this year for another dazzling display of comedy and sword fighting brilliance.

Also, don’t miss Fireflicker, a curious young dragon exploring the streets of the festival looking for shiny things to hoard, who is always excited to meet all the young knights and princesses of the realm!

The Knotty Nauticals are so happy to be back at this beautiful show.

Galiana, the living fountain will deliver an elegant and sophisticated show combining artistry and illusion as a beautiful statue that transforms herself with magical grace into a Living Fountain. As music plays, her delicate jets of water will appear from her fingertips as a shimmering halo cascades from the crown of her head in this beautifully choreographed performance. Visually stunning!

The DED BOB SHO didn’t survive the plague, but he’s here to tell you about it! Coming soon to a pub stage near you! And come be BOBMOTIZED and join the Bob Zombies (for mature audiences). + so much more entertainment!

Operating days/hours are June 5-6, June 12-13, June 19-20, June 26-27.

The WV Renaissance Festival is located at 23439 Midland Trail E in Lewisburg and is situated along US Rt. 60. It can be easily accessed from both downtown Lewisburg and Alta exit 161 off of I-64. Visitors are welcome to partake in festive and period attire, but it is not required. While firearms are prohibited on festival grounds, costume weapons are permitted as long as they are peace tied. Guests are also reminded to consider that the event is outdoors and to come prepared for sun, rain, wind, and uneven terrain.
