That scar that you’re hiding or wish you could hide can be even more bad news than an unsightly blemish or threat to your vanity. The battle scars from injuries and surgical procedures may lead to problems not only in the area of the scar but also affect underlying glands and organs AND can cause or contribute to body distress located far away from the scar AND, can create a disturbance that affects the entire body!
Our skin is our largest “organ”. It is actually derived from and an extension of the nervous system (Our primary body communication system). Nerve endings in our skin are so densely populated and arranged that if we were able to project only our nerve fibers in the skin on a screen we could identify ourselves. Most of these nerves are called sensory nerves because they “sense” conditions at the body surface and outward into the environment. Information is relayed or communicated back to the spinal cord and brain for central processing and if necessary a returned response is communicated back to the sensory area AND potentially to other body systems AND the entire body. Most of this communication cycle is done without our conscious awareness.
As discovered by Acupuncturists, body surface scars that do not heal optimally can block or distort body communication just as spinal misalignment can in the practice of Chiropractic. Problematic body scars are so common that in the Future Doc practice at Greenbrier Chiropractic Center all new patients and complaints are screened for “active” body surface scars. Offending scars can result from injuries, burns, piercings, tattoos, and most commonly from surgical procedures. The most offensive scars cross or are on the front midline of the body which includes C-sections, hysterectomies, and episiotomies. Additionally, surgery done through the naval (our first scar) may result in an active or disruptive scar.
When these active scars are handled many non-resolving health issues anywhere in the body begin to resolve. Sometimes it’s quite miraculous to see….for example. A new patient came in last week with chronic lower back and neck pain and other issues that psychotropic drugs were prescribed for. After one initial treatment for an active scar and one Chiropractic adjustment, she returned on the next visit crying with tears of Joy! She had no significant pain, she was able to sleep for the first time in years, and she now knew that she could get better! That’s priceless!
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” – Thomas A. Edison.
