Mtn Scene: Hit the Slopes w/ Ski Barn at Snowshoe Mountain!

Yes! It’s time to hit the slopes at Snowshoe Mountain Resort! Opening day arrived right on time during Thanksgiving week and The Ski Barn and SnowCreek Mountain Sports have been busy gearing up their customers for mountain fun. They are eager to maintain a strong ski and snowboard season while accommodating all your equipment needs. The Ski Barn and SnowCreek Mtn Sports are the east coast’s largest independent ski and snowboard rental company and carry a large selection of clothing and equipment for all ages.

The Ski Barn is located at the base of the mountain near the Fiddlehead Restaurant, and SnowCreek is at the top. Both shops have top of the line equipment and they recently received over four hundred new skis, available to rent for one day or the entire ski season.

“SUPER friendly staff, very accommodating, patient and helpful when trying different styles of boots and skis…” – Panchito X, Feb 2016

Don’t have the gear? No Problem! They carry a diverse selection of ski and snowboard rental equipment (including helmets, skiboards, bibs, and jacket rentals) and their friendly staff will help you get on the mountain fast! Both shops carry Atomic, Nordica, Blizzard, and Scott skis among many other well-known brands. “And just because snowboarding is not in our name does not mean we do not have everything for all the snowboarders out there,” says Hunter West, Ski Barn’s manager. He tells us you can find Burton, 686, Roxy, Arbor, K2, and Ride. They also have all your favorite clothing companies in stock, including Spyder, Columbia, Under Armour, and Obermyer, Uggs, and The North Face.

The staff at both locations will make sure you have the right gear as they are some of the most trained in the region. Their ski and snowboard techs come from around the United States and have worked at many other resorts. Hunter tells us, “At the Ski Barn, we have a veteran tech who has been with the company for over twenty-five years. When you walk in try to guess which one of our employees it is. … P.S- They love it when you ask.”

They also love kiddos and have clothing and equipment to fit all sizes of children. The Ski Barn and SnowCreek Mtn. Sports accommodate all ages of ski and snowboard groups, including Snowshoe’s first, 6 and under Ski Team and The Linwood Lizards. Other groups include Virginia Tech, Appalachian State University Ski and Snowboard teams, and Roanoke Ski Club.

“The staff at the Ski Barn was super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful (Raven).  Our rental equipment was in excellent condition and priced better than everyone else around.  Their shop has lots of pro gear available for purchase and I picked up some new gloves that were on sale marked down from $40 to $20!” -B.M. In the Ski Barn location, there is an area known to locals as the “Discount Den”. The Den has merchandise that has been knocked down in price to accommodate all shoppers who need to save money. Discounts can go up to 75% off. “Once you have walked onto the original hardwood floor of the barn, you know you are in the den! There are jackets, pants, baselayer galore!!! says Hunter.

This winter season, make sure you get your gear at the Ski Barn and/or Snowcreek Mtn Sports. You will save both time and money by stopping in one of their locations before getting to your destination. They also have shops at the base of Canaan Valley, Timberline, and Winterplace Resorts in West Virginia and Wintergreen Resort in Virginia.

If you travel out west, check out their parent company, R&R Sports. They also have sister shops: Base Mountain Sports, which is located in both Beaver Creek, CO and Breckenridge, CO. Aloha is located in Park City, UT and services The Canyons, Park City, and Deer Valley resorts.  Butte and Co. services Crested Butte, CO. For more information, visit SkiBarn.net.
