The Merriam-Webster Dictionary online defines “drag” as: “clothing typical of one sex worn by a person of the opposite sex.” In response to this definition, many fans and performers may say that “drag” is more than just “clothes.” It is an artform that emphasizes artistic expression in costume, makeup, performance, design, and so much more. The shows and performances are often times intriguing, shocking, heart-warming, and even thought-provoking. On Saturday, November 21st check out a show with a little bit of everything at this year’s Spanxgiving Drag & Burlesque Show at Greenbrier Valley Theatre in downtown Lewisburg. Show starts at 7:30pm.

“We thought it was a brilliant and honestly just plain fun idea to blend the art forms of drag and burlesque in one evening event… It’s going to be a good time and the first of its kind in our region,” –Chris Jolliffe, board member and event organizer.

The performers for this year’s show are Penny Maple, Viki Williams from Charleston, Alexis Flame from NYC, Coti Collins from Raleigh NC, and Priscilla Divine from Huntington.

Burlesque performer Penny Maple (feat. on the right), with Her Riveting Roses, is headlining the festivities. Maple is an actress, dancer and art model based in Charleston, W.Va. She has worked in films and on stage, and is production coordinator for ShockaCon, the W.Va. Horror and Sci-Fi Convention.

Headlining alongside Maple will be drag queen Coti Collins (feat on the left), best known for his Reba McEntire impersonation. Collins was crowned Miss Gay World in 1990 and Miss Gay America in 2011. In 1996-97, he toured with Reba on the “Starting Over Road Show.”

The evening will be hosted by the Greenbrier Valley’s own Lilli Lugosi, the stage persona of Sheila Jordan. Show starts at 7:30pm and tickets are $35. Admission is limited to ages 21+. For more information, contact GVT’s Box Office at 304-645-3838 or visit gvtheatre.org.
