Within the past few weeks, The Weight has played to sold out shows at both Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg and the Pretty Penny Cafe in Hillsboro. We witnessed a standing ovation at GVT and we can assure you that this highly skilled band won’t dissapoint. This April 13th, see them live during Lewisburg’s Chocolate Festival outside at The Greenspace: 2:15pm and in the evening at The Wild Bean: 7:30pm. What kind of music do you play?
It’s hard to categorize. It’s rock. It’s roll. It’s original, but also somewhat familiar. You tell us!
What does each member bring to the band?
Everybody in this band is pretty good at what they do, but we’ve all agreed to abandon our egos and throw it all into the pot. Yes, we actually have an imaginary pot that we place in the center of the band. During rehearsal it’s where all the ideas go. During a show it’s where all the energy collects before it moves out into the crowd.
How did you come up with the name The Weight? And what does it mean?
Funny you should ask. We hear a lot of different stories about our name, where it came from, and what it means. Our favorite, though we are not at liberty to confirm or deny, is that it’s a leftover nickname from Morgan’s childhood. The story does make mention that she was an excellent goal tender.
How long have the members of this group been performing and what are their backgrounds?
We have been playing for a combined total of 130 years. And we all come from completely different musical backgrounds: folk, sacred, doom, classical, mariachi, and other obviously miscible genres.
Where do we see the band in 5 years?
Hard to say. Right now we are rehearsing nearly every day, and we are writing non-stop. It’s been a whirlwind of fun and creativity that seems to be resulting in shows that people like. God willing, the songs will keep coming, we’ll keep having fun, and the crowds will continue to grow and like what we do.
What are you most looking forward to about performing for the 2013 Lewisburg Chocolate Festival & Wild Bean?
The truth is, we love to play. And we love Lewisburg and are thrilled to be supporting our hometown and the united way. Plus, getting paid in chocolate is totally awesome. And of course, the Wild Bean plays an important roll in our musical lives. We look forward to rocking the Greenspace, and the stage at the Wild Bean and we thank you for taking the time to interview us.
