Home and Garden Tour comes to Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs this month

By Sarah Richardson

The Greenbrier Valley Home and Garden Tour returns Saturday, June 13, celebrating 40 years of opening some of the region’s most distinctive homes and gardens to the public. Held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. across Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs, the biennial tour has become one of the area’s most cherished traditions, not only for its historic homes, elegant interiors, and vibrant landscapes, but for the community spirit that sustains it. Organized by members and friends of five local garden clubs — the Bluebell, Greenbrier Gardeners, Lewisburg House and Garden, Old White, and Savannah Garden Clubs — the event helps fund beautification efforts throughout the valley, from public flower displays to carefully maintained civic spaces. This year’s featured locations include historic residences, thoughtfully restored homes, working studios, and gardens ranging from formal designs to colorful, natural landscapes, offering visitors a deeper look into the history and character of the Greenbrier Valley.

For organizers like marketing and publicity chair Katie Ickes, the tour represents far more than a showcase of beautiful spaces. It reflects decades of volunteer work, preservation, and pride in the community. Ickes describes local garden club members as the “unsung heroes” behind much of the valley’s charm, noting that generations of volunteers — from members in their twenties to those in their nineties — continue to dedicate countless hours to maintaining and enhancing public spaces. Beyond touring homes, visitors are invited to experience the broader culture and hospitality of the region, with featured stops including homes tied to local history, Greenbrier-inspired interior design, and notable landscape architecture. Tickets are available through garden club members, the Greenbrier Valley Visitor Center, Gillespie’s Floral and Productions, and at select tour locations on the day of the event.
