The Greenbrier Valley's #1 Source for Food, Music, Shopping, Theatre, and Events!

FROM THE EDITOR

Summer’s in full swing here in the Greenbrier Valley, and if you ask me, it’s showing off. Sunshine, river days, live music echoing through the hills, and farmers markets full of fresh finds and friendly faces. This month’s cover story offers a lighthearted look at how we soak up the season around here. It’s by no means a full list, but a mere glimpse into the magic of summer in this region: long days on the trails or rivers, lingering at markets, catching up with neighbors… and yes, the occasional mystery squash left on your porch.

Inside this issue, you’ll find a packed calendar full of ways to enjoy July: trivia nights, live music, and of course the beloved Alderson 4th of July celebration. And speaking of celebrations, Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company is hosting a free Independence Day show with Richard Hefner and the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys, followed by their 5th of July Music Festival, a tribute to the music of the Grateful Dead.

This month also brings a bittersweet goodbye to Patrick O’Flaherty, whose Irish tunes have been a treasured part of the Valley for years. We wish him well in his next chapter. You’ll also meet rising rap artist J-Mane, whose recent Juneteenth performance in Lewisburg was powerful, honest, and full of heart.

Also in these pages: a visit with Ashly from Plants, Etc., whose shop is as full of Appalachian craftsmanship as it is great conversation. And don’t miss Leah Stansell’s inspiring work, connecting communities near and far ahead of her September conference.

Whether you’re tubing the river, chasing lightning bugs, or catching a show under the stars, flip through The Agenda, find something new, and let July carry you where it will. We’ll see you out there.

Your editor, Lisa

P.S.: In last month’s issue, the Shepherd’s Center Kickoff was incorrectly listed for Saturday, June 29, but it actually takes place on Sunday, June 29. That one’s on me. My apologies & thanks for your patience.
