Acting Out: Greenbrier Valley Theatre Looks Toward 2022 w/ a Brand New Look & Will Celebrate History in Motion Next Year

To say that the 2021 season at Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg went off without a hitch would be a bit of a stretch. Much like the rest of the world, the residual effects of COVID-19 impacted decisions that were made, sometimes on the fly. Still, through tremendous support, the 2021 season was a success and it has been wonderful producing live performing arts in downtown Lewisburg again.

The season is not yet completely wrapped – Christmas Time is Here is still set to play and delight families from December 3rd to the 18th. This performance combines all the feel-good holiday charm you could imagine with some GVT favorite performers, as they get Lewisburg into the Christmas spirit. Even with the excitement around the final show of the season, the theatre has steadily been making plans to celebrate its 55th season in 2022.

“We are excited to celebrate ‘history in motion’ as we continue to develop and grow” – Matthew Campbell

Not only will the 55th season feature works of art that will appeal to a wide variety of audience members, GVT will also be unveiling a rebrand. Updates to the organization’s logo, as well as to the building will be made as they usher in new change. Matthew Scott Campbell began in June, and with his first season under his belt, it is time to continue moving the theatre forward into a new age.

“We are excited to celebrate ‘history in motion’ as we continue to develop and grow,” says Campbell. “The theatre has brought so many wonderful things to this community for 55 seasons, and we’re excited about new additions, reimagining, and upholding strong traditions that we’ve had thus far.”

The 2022 season will feature classics as well as new works that speak to tradition as well as new imagination and change.

The 2022 season will feature classics as well as new works that speak to tradition as well as new imagination and change. Titles such as Wizard of Oz, Murder for Two, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Little Shop of Horrors, and Mountain Home Christmas are just some of the shows slated for 2022. There is going to be something for everyone in this season with musicals, plays, and events. The goal of the theatre is to continue producing art safely, but also welcome back patrons that may not have felt comfortable returning during 2021.

While there is buzz and excitement over the new things coming in the new year, tickets are still on sale for Christmas Time is Here as the 2021 season wraps up. Tickets are $30 for general seating, $27 for senior citizens age 60 and above, and $20 for students. Tickets are available online at the theatre’s website: gvtheatre.org or by calling the box office at 304-645-3838.
