Sat. Jan 7: Warm up w/ Craft Brews & Chili!

This January, warm up with craft brews, live music, and chili at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company’s 2nd annual Chili Cook-Off slated for Saturday, January 7th from 6-9pm! You’ll have your taste buds rocked with a variety of 16+ chili offerings from area residents and chefs. Then wash down that hot chili with a cold craft brew. On tap will be Devil Anse IPA, Mothman Black IPA & Wild Trail Pale Ale. There will also be live music with classic country rock band, Steele Country starting at 6:30pm. Cook and compete, or just come to eat, admission is free. Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co is a production brewery serving draft and canned craft beers throughout the state of West Virginia.

Awards and prizes from area shops and restaurants will be given for “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice Award”. The Best in Show award will determine who gets crowned Chili Champ 2017. This will be judged by local chefs Gina Anderson from Greenbrier Valley Baking Company, Lynn Massie from Jim’s Drive In, Evan Fallin from Thunderbird Taco, Tom White, local lawyer and chili aficionado and David Kucera, co-owner of Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company.

“Our 1st Annual Chili Cook Off last year was a huge success with over 100 people tasting 16 different chili recipes from area residents and chefs.  As we are doing both the concert series and cook-off the same night, we anticipate a bit larger crowd this year with even more chili offerings. We’re especially excited this year as we have kicked in our small batch brews this season which are available only at the tap room, offering more choices at the taps.” – Lisa Stansell, Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co’s marketing manager.

If you are interested in participating, you are asked to bring your own crockpot with the tasty goods and a ladle for serving. The brewery will provide the rest. If you’d like to compete, please call the brewery at 304-520-4669 to reserve your spot.  As a contestant, you must fill out a waiver from the Greenbrier County Health Department and submit it into the brewery before Friday, January 6th. Samplers can fill out before or at the door. 1. You can stop by the brewery for a copy or 2. Check GVBeer.com and facebook.com/GreenbrierValleyBrewingCompany for the waiver. Right click the form, save, print, sign, scan, and email the waiver below to them. Email it to Lisa@GVBeer.com.

GV Brewing Co’s mission is to encourage everyone to “Get Out, Explore, Bring Beer.” This event is a fun way to enjoy locally made chili with friends while experiencing their tasty and refreshing craft beer that, in this case, you don’t have to bring. Founded in 2012, they want everyone to experience the meaning behind Wild and Wonderful West Virginia by enjoying their quality craft beers. You can find their brews in Lewisburg at the Irish Pub, Del Sol, Greenbrier Valley Baking Company, Stardust Café, The Livery, 50 East, The Greenbrier/Summit & JJ’s, Ruby Tuesday, and Briar Patch Inn. Their brews are also available in several locations in Charleston, Beckley, Morgantown, Shepherdstown, and Wheeling, and Huntington area. See their facebook’s “about” section for complete list.

Last year’s event brought in 16 chili tastings and over 100 chili connoisseurs. They are expecting an even larger crowd this year and they would like to thank all the chefs and attendees who helped make last year’s event a huge success. The brewery is located at 862 Industrial Park Rd in Maxwelton, WV (near Greenbrier Valley airport and across from Smooth Ambler Spirits).
