On July 16th, the Greenbrier Humane Society invites you and your pet to celebrate Christmas in July. This event is FREE and donations are encouraged. It takes place from 1-4pm on the lawn of New River Community and Technical College and Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg, WV. Festivities include carolers roaming the grounds singing holiday tunes, a Silent Auction, an Adopt-a-Thon; family and Pet Photos with Santa, a Kid Zone with bounce houses, temporary tattoos, arts & crafts; and a Dog Show where you can bring your pup’s best costume and talents (pre-registration encouraged and there is just a $5 entrance fee). There will also be a Microchip & Education Station, nail clippings, and a Dog training expo and Q&A featuring Hashtag “My Dog & I” columnist and owner of Goodladd Dog Training, Janine Lazurus! Janine will discuss her dog training work from 1-3pm. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash and have a current rabies vaccination!!
“Leia was adopted in March 2015 after being found wandering the streets of Ronceverte. She laid at the humane society for a month and a half w/ zero interest. My husband & I fell in love with her and figured she’d be the perfect companion for Miner. The two are best friends and we are thankful every day for the never ending joy they bring to our lives.” – Leia’s adoptive mom.
The Dog Show starts at 1:30pm. Categories include Best Costume, Prettiest Pet, Best Walk, Waggiest Tail, Most Appealing Eyes, and Best All Around GHS Alumni. For the adopt-a-thon, there will be about 10 dogs from the Greenbrier Humane Society. No cats will be in attendance because cats and kittens don’t do well in the heat.
The standard adoption fee for dogs is $85. Included in the fee is their mandatory spay/neuter, heartworm test, rabies vaccine, first canine vaccines, flea treatment, de-worming, and a toenail trim. If you are looking for a specific breed that they don’t currently have, ask about the wish list.
