LZ Rainelle Hosts Memorial Day Weekend Veterans’ Reunion

The 2022 Mountaineer Veterans Garden of Honor will be on display through Monday, May 30. 

The display will feature over 11,000 American Flags in memory of each West Virginia Soldier killed in action serving for freedom since WWI.

The LZ Rainelle Veteran’s Reunion will take place between Thursday, May 26 and Monday, May 30. 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Thursday, May 26: 

  • 12:00 p.m.: Welcome escort through Rainelle for those riding in “Run for the Wall 2022” to D.C.
  • 6 – 8:00 p.m.: Dinner at Rainelle Moose Lodge (donations/veterans free)

Friday, May 27:

  • 9:00 a.m.: Task Force Omega POW/MIA Flag-Raising and presentation Rainelle Elementary School gym.
  • 12:00 p.m.: Task Force Omega scenic ride.
  • 3:00 p.m.: MURBLES – Rainelle Elementary School lawn.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Task Force Omega/LZ Rainelle Program – Stonerise Rainelle Nursing Home.
  • 5 – 7:00 p.m.: Dinner at Rainelle Moose Lodge (donations/veterans free)
  • 7 – 11:00 p.m.: Band
  • 7:30 p.m.: Mountaineer Veterans Garden of Honor Candlelight Ceremony – if inclement weather, ceremony will be in Rainelle Elementary gymnasium.

Speakers – Danny “Greasy” Belcher, TFO of Kentucky / Terry Cunningham, Gold Star Chapter President

After the last solar-candle turns on, the Rainelle Volunteer Fire Department will direct all attending up the entrance of Rainelle Medical Center to view the display and exit the ceremony.

Saturday, May 28:

  • 9 – 11:00 a.m.: Breakfast at Rainelle Moose Lodge (donations/veterans free)
  • 11:00 a.m.: Parade Lineup
  • 12:00 p.m.: Parade (cash prizes) – please put your business vehicle in the parade if possible*
  • 1:00 p.m.: Awards at 811th Reserve Center parking lot. *Must be present to receive award.* 
  • 1:30 p.m.: MURBLE player registration and lunch at Rainelle Elementary School front lawn.
  • 2:00 p.m.: Gold Star and JROTC MURBLES with Veterans tournament  – bring lawn chair. (Players will have a chance to win pontoon rental on Summersville Lake)
  • 7:00 p.m.: CONCERT – Mark Patterson & The Midnight Special, Rainelle Elementary School Gymnasium.
  • 9:30 p.m.: Aerial fireworks display Industrial Park (back-up rain date May 29)

Sunday, May 29

  • 9:00 a.m.: Sunday morning worship with TFO/Kentucky – Ponderosa Lodge (Big Sewell Mtn. Rt. 60)

Monday, May 30

  • Last day to visit Mountaineer Veterans Garden of Honor
