Mountain Scene: Mi Tequila. When the Mexican Food Craving Hits

When the Mexican food craving hits, you won’t have to go south of the border. A family-operated restaurant with a regional Mexican focus and extensive menu has opened on the north end of Lewisburg. Mi Tequila is a casual one-room spot beside Tudors Biscuit World, the well-known West Virginia restaurant chain and franchise. They pride themselves on offering a comfortable setting where you can enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and dishes prepared fresh. You will find that everything from the guacamole (hereinafter “guac”) to the chile relleno is reliably delicious and their churros topped with ice cream is how you’ll want to end every meal going forward.

Amanda Pyne is one of the owners and she says since opening, the local response has been very welcoming and positive. They have had several repeat customers who have been spreading the word of this new local business. Amanda tells us they chose their current location because they wanted to give northern Lewisburg another dining option and the affordability of the space could not be beat. Amanda and her team have over 15 years of industry experience. She goes onto say, “We hope to provide Lewisburg with great authentic Mexican food!”

Offering over 100 menu items, there is something for everyone at Mi Tequila. Among the highlights are Steak Sinaloa which is topped with grilled onions, mushrooms, and cheese dip. It’s served with rice and beans. There’s also beef off the grill such as the Special Miguel, which is a flour tortilla stuffed with grilled steak, onions, and mushrooms. It’s served with lettuce, cheese, guac, sour cream, and tomato. There are plentiful vegetarian options as well such as the Authentic Chile Relleno, Vegetarian Taco Salad, Quesadilla Rellena Deluxe, and Vegetarian Fajitas. The Kid’s Menu includes burritos, tacos, quesadillas, burgers, chicken nuggets, grilled chicken strips, and a mini taco salad.

Amanda says a very popular dish is the Big Daddy Burrito which is a large 10” flour torilla stuffed with steak, shrimp, bell peppers, onions, tomato, rice, and beans. It is topped with red sauce, green sauce, and cheese dip and served with lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. Another favorite is the Shrimp Chimichanga as well as the several types of Fajitas, all served on a sizzling skillet and with rice, beans, guac salad, sour cream, and 3 flour or corn tortillas.

Make room for the various desserts including the Fried Ice Cream, Churros with ice cream; Sopapilla, which is a flour tortilla with honey and butter and served with ice cream; Flan, which is a Mexican custard; and Xango, which is a chimi cheesacake.

Libations are coming soon and will consist of Strawberry, Peach, Lime, Raspberry, and Mango Margaritas. There’s also the Margaronita which is a jumbo house margarita with Corona Beer. Top Shelf Margaritas will include Patron or 1800. Tequila shots will also be available with 1800, Patron, Jose Cuervo, Don Julio, and a house tequila. If you’re feeling a mixed drink, the restaurant will soon offer a Screwdriver, Bloody Mary, Fuzzy Navel, Jack and Coke, and Long Island Iced Tea. Beer offerings will include domestics such as Bud Light, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, and Miller Light. Imported beers will be Corona, Corona Light, Modelo Especial, XX Amber, XX Lager, Pacifico, Tecate, and Negra Modelo.

From appetizers and salads to chicken, steak, and seafood dishes, Mi Tequila is a great spot to visit for tasty Mexican cooking on the north end of town. It’s an excellent option for a quick luck, dinner, take-out, or a special occasion. The restaurant’s capacity is up to 40 folks and if you are interested in booking a private event, please provide advance notice.

“I tried Mi Tequila for the first time tonight and man, it was REALLY good! I had the Quesadilla Rellena with chips salsa and queso. It was REALLY busy in there but the staff was friendly and the service was super quick. They have done an awesome job renovating the inside of that building as well. Happy to have this new addition to Lewisburg. HIGHLY recommend!” – Brandon Morgan, via fb
