Where to Eat + Drink Outside: A Guide to Greenbrier Valley’s Patio Scene

The Greenbrier Valley is chock full of good eats. Come every sunny day to Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs, or Alderson, whether it’s Wednesday or Saturday, this area shares the collective urge for meals, brews, and cocktails on the patio. The Asylum – You had us at 80 craft beers. Even better? There’s a well-furnished open two-tier deck vibe to savor all that the restaurant has to offer – which includes wings, lots of wings in several different flavors such as Bourbon Molasses, Chipotle, Classic BBQ, Caribbean Jerk, Siracha, etc. Some popular starters include the Onion Tower Rings and House Fried Potato Chips. Del Sol – Del Sol is everything you would want from a Washington Street patio: fresh authentic Latin cuisine, specialty pizzas, a full bar, solid craft beer options, and flowers all around. Humble Tomato – If there was a definition of a classic downtown terrace, this spot would be it. The Humble Tomato is a romantic and spacious patio, nestled along Washington Street. Go big on the Specialty Pizzas daily and Bottomless Mimosas every Sunday before wandering over to the park to nap it all off. 855 Washington St. W. Lewisburg. The Market – Neighbor to Food and Friends, The Market is another Lewisburg favorite offering typical lunchtime fare with sandwiches and wraps made with Boar’s Head meats. They also serve Gyros, Reubens, Philly Wraps, and Salads. This is a great option when you find yourself hungry in town at lunchtime. Corn + Flower – You would be hard-pressed not to find a pastry (or bread) or lunch special you don’t like at Corn + Flower. Once you’ve exchanged your cash or swiped your card, step outside and enjoy the sidewalk seating on Court. Wild Bean – Are you someone who thinks in shots of espresso? With their made from scratch pastries, sandwiches, salads, wraps, frappes, smoothies, and sustainably sourced beans, you can’t go wrong with a breakfast or mid-day pick me up on the sidewalk patio space at the Wild Bean. 1056 Washington St. E. General Lewis Inn & Restaurant – General Lewis Inn is a weekend brunch favorite. From their Shrimp and Grits to Eggs Bennie, you will find something to enjoy while relaxing on the front deck or back patio. Be sure to also indulge in the Lewis’ Eye Opener cocktails such as the Spicy Peppery Bloody Mary or What’s Up Doc. French Goat. – For those in the know, The French Goat is the perfect hidden gem patio in Lewisburg. The restaurant has a gated garden oasis with a stunning 19th century fountain. Don’t pass-up their sautéed mussels, Pho Duck, Buttermilk Fried Chicken Thighs, and Onion Soup – perfect for those chilly summer nights.  111 Lafayette Street. Lewisburg. Jim’s Drive In – What’s better than an old-fashioned curb side drive in? One that has an attached patio, obviously! Or relax in your car and enjoy your meal. Think: Philly Steak Subs, BBQ Fries, Fried Green Tomato Sandwiches, Onion Rings, English Hot Dogs, Polish Sausage Sandwiches, the Big Jim Bacon Burger, etc. – and did we mention the ice cream, slush puppies, and 16 flavors of milk shakes? 50 East Casual Dining & Spirits – Neighborhood staple 50 East (pictured above) has been welcoming guests to its sunny patio and back deck for the past – years. Sit back on the patio chairs and enjoy Grilled Mahi Mahi, Avocado Chicken Bacon Wrap, or a Tuna Nicoise Salad all while nursing a beer. April’s Pizza – A place designed for the whole family, with seats inside or on the patio overlooking Main Street. This comfort food spot in White Sulphur Springs has kids in mind, and most of the menu is kid-friendly offering hamburgers, pizzas and subs, in addition to turnovers, a salad bar, Reubens, Fried Zucchini, and beer for the grown-ups. Stuart’s Smokehouse & Seafood – Where there’s smoke theres always something cooking at Stuart’s. This is a favorite stop for hungry locals, tourists, and “drifters’ making their way down the Greenbrier River. The restaurant’s relaxing riverside locale, casual vibe, and friendly staff make for a truly one-of-a-kind experience in the Greenbrier Valley.
