The Greenbrier Valley's #1 Source for Food, Music, Shopping, Theatre, and Events!

Sat. April 29 – HGTR @ WV Craft Brew Fest!

Craft brew is taking off in West Virginia so don’t miss the first-ever West Virginia Craft Brew Festival held Saturday, April 29th, from 2-10pm at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds. This event brings together the best West Virginia craft brews, an assortment of food trucks, and all day music featuring Holy Ghost Revival, Larry Keel, and many others. There will also be special workshops on: beer and food pairings, home brew, and the importance of agriculture in the brewing process. The state fair tells us they are expecting somewhere between 1,500 to 2,000 attendees. Festivities will be outdoors in the “Carnival Midway Area” and attendees can walk around with their beer inside the venue fencing. In the event of rain, this event will be moved to its alternate location at the AG Pavilion.

Throughout the day, you’ll enjoy every kind of craft brew all the way from a pale ale to a driving stout to an IPA. Some of the breweries include Chestnut Brew Works and Morgantown Brewing Co. both from Morgantown; Big Timber Brewing from Elkins, Parkersburg Brewing, Sophisticated Hound Brewing from Princeton, Bridge Brew Works from Fayetteville, Dobra Zupas, which is a charming restaurant and new American fare and craft brewery from Beckley, and Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company. Lisa Stansell, marketing manager from Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co. states, “We couldn’t be more excited about the first ever WV Craft Brew festival happening pretty much in our own back yard.  Craft beer is really taking off in West Virginia and we feel fortunate to be among the fine breweries throughout our state.  We plan on having the Tap Room open the day of the WV Craft Brew Festival, so that folks can visit a production brewery, see our fermenters and pad, and have a small batch pint.”

While your enjoying our state’s brews and food, you’ll hear the sounds of several talented musical acts including the exhilarating and uplifting band, Holy Ghost Tent Revival. Their roots were formed by getting people to move on the dance floor. For the past 9 years, this band has been honing their unique sound which NPR describes as a “soul rock horn band that recalls 60’s and 70’s classic-rock influences such as The Band and The Flying Burrito Brothers, contemporary indie-rock acts like Dr. Dog and New Orleans brass-band jazz.” (holyghosttentrevival.com).

Other bands at this event include Americana artist Tyler Childers. (reverbnation.com/tylerchilders); Virginia-based alternative bluegrass ensemble headed by flatpicking guitar champion, Larry Keel (larrykeel.com); rapid-fire flatpicking guitar with the sultry and wild, yet refined, melodies of Lyndsay Pruett on violin set over the deep groove of Patrick, The Jon Stickley Trio (jonstickley.com), and Appalachian soul and blues from West Virginia, Black King Coal (facebook.com/blackkingcoal).

Tickets can be purchased by visiting statefairofwv.com or by calling 1-800-514-ETIX (3849). Tickets can also be purchased at the State Fair Box Office and other select locations.

The mission of this event is to support and expand the ever-growing craft beer movement in West Virginia, while also supporting the local community.  The goal is to raise funds for the State Fair of WV and Lewisburg Rotary Endowment Funds to support scholarships in the Greenbrier Valley and across the state. All funds, minus the expense, will be split between the foundations. See you there!
