On Halloween night, hordes of costumed children trick or treat the night away. We encourage you to gather the kids and the family dog(s) and start the festivities early at the Lewisburg Halloween Festival. Slated for Saturday, October 29th, this special free event is held from 3-8pm at Hollowell Park, located behind WV Osteopathic School of Medicine (WVSOM). There will be games, food, live music, and vendors!
There will be a Pet Pawrade sponsored by Seneca Trail Animal Hospital. Prized will be to the dogs who don the scariest, most original, and cutest costumes. Games for the kids include a Pumpkin Ring Toss where contestants are given 3 rings to toss at the stems of pumpkins. The goal is to ring as many pumpkin stems as possible. There’s also the Broomstick Race, Get -a-Ghost, Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss, and a Pumpkin Carving Contest for both kids and adults.
There will be cotton candy, candied apples, Halloween cookies, and funnel cakes by Ol Skool Confessions. Ol Skool Confessions is a funnel cake truck like the ones at the Fair which serve not only classic funnel cakes, but also pumpkin pie and red velvet flavors. They will also be serving drinks. Of the bands performing, one is West Virginia indie rock band, Absolute Love Affair. Most of the vendors are small business and one is professional makeup artist company, Luxury.
This event was founded by local resident, Madison Meadows, who came up with this festival through a movie she enjoyed as a kid called, “Halloweentown”. She loves Halloween and always wanted a big, spooky festival like the film. Madison tells us, “At first, I just thought a Lewisburg Halloween festival was going stay a good idea and nothing was going come of it, but when I posted it on Facebook, people started jumping on board left and right. I guess I wasn’t the only one who dreamt of a fantastic Halloween celebration. I’m really happy with the town’s response and all the effort the committee members are putting into this. I really couldn’t have done this without their help.” Madison would like to give special thanks to Courtney Floyd, Jamie Clark, Tiffany Sims, and Cody Sizemore. She tells us these folks are the real reason this event is happening and they have put in several hours of hard work and dedication.
Get out and support this fun event! For more info, check out the “Lewisburg Halloween Festival” event page on Facebook or contact Madison at (304) 992-4845.
