Presidential and local election signs are spread everywhere across Greenbrier County, West Virginia. All of us, in one way or another, are invested in these elections. Some of us are election junkies and greet this process with enthusiasm while others try to ignore the campaigns completely. Most of us are somewhere in between. We watch a few minutes of a debate, research a few election pages online, chat about it occasionally, and perhaps become involved at some level through volunteering, working, or helping a candidate. But with so many candidates running, it may still be difficult to understand exactly who is running for which particular seat. To help clarify any confusion, we have created a GPS for you to find your way to your political destination.
On Tuesday, May 10th, Greenbrier county voters will elect non-partisan officials in the following seats: Circuit Court Judge, Greenbrier County Magistrate, Family Court Judge, and Board of Education. Here is the breakdown:
Circuit Court Judge Division 1 (vote for one)
Robert E. Richardson is running as incumbent. The seated judge is being challenged by Britt Ludwig and Steve Hunter.
Circuit Court Judge Division 2 (vote for one)
Judge Rowe is retiring from his position. Candidates running for this seat are Fred Giggenbach, Jennifer Dent, and Jeffrey S. Rodgers (pictured above), Rodgers4Judge.com
Greenbrier County Magistrate
Incumbent, Charles Beard is running unopposed for Division 1 and incumbent Brenda J Smith is also running unopposed in Division 3. In Division 2, however, incumbent Sheriff James W. “Jim” Childers is being challenged by Kimberly L. “Kim” Johnson.
Family Court Judge
David M. Sanders, incumbent is being challenged by Martha J. Fleshman.
Board of Education
There are two seats open for the Board of Education. Incumbent, Robert “Bob” Toothman is running against Mary C. Humphreys and Katie C. Ickes. Two seats will be chosen on Election Day.
