Sat. June 27: Jackson River Trail Half Marathon

jackson half marathon

The Jackson River Scenic Trail Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and Family Fun Run/Walk, is slated for Saturday, June 27th, 2015. This event coincides with the Covington Cork and Pork celebration so great food, wine tasting, beer and entertainment awaits all finishers!

The race starts at 8am and the course is on the smooth crushed gravel surface of the Jackson River Scenic Trail. This trail is mostly flat with some light hills. The 1 mile, 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon have turn around points with volunteers making sure you don’t miss them. The starting point is also the finish. There will be at least 2 water stations on the way and on the way back for the half marathon! There will also be port-a-johns available at the start/finish. Refreshments will be available at the finish line and winners and awards will be announced at noon in downtown Covington at 12pm.

The Jackson River Scenic Trail follows its namesake river, winding its way between Intervale, just north of Covington, to Smith Bridge Trail Head 7.2 miles north. The trail follows an old railroad bed of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (Hot Springs Branch) and passes through small communities, cultivated fields, and small patches of woodland along the way. It isn’t uncommon to see wildlife from the trail (birds, turtles, raccoons, rabbits, ground hogs, and deer). There are plans to extend the trail another 10 miles.

The top 3 overall male and female finishers for each race will receive distinctive awards. The top three finishers in each age group will receive a medal recognizing their achievement. Register now at raceit.com/Register/?event=30405
Early bird prices are effective until June 1st. The Half- Marathon is $35 w/ early bird and then $45. The 10k is $30 w/ early bird and then $40. The 5k is $25 w/ early bird and then $35. The Family Fun 1mile Run/Walk is $12 w/ early bird and then $15.
