EVENT: Takenobu at Wild Bean
WHERE: The Wild Bean, Downtown Lewisburg, WV
WHEN: Friday, October 11th, 2013.
On the Eve of Taste of our Town, TOOT, there will be a live performance at the Wild Bean, 8pm in downtown Lewisburg featuring a highly talented cellist, singer, and composer by the name of Nick Takénobu Ogawa. This artist prefers to perform using his middle name, Takénobu, which in Japanese means “Iron-Will.” His middle name couldn’t be more fitting as this musician most certainly has a burning will-power that cannot be hindered.
Takénobu has lived and performed in New York, Philadelphia, Vancouver BC, and Atlanta. While studying in Kyoto, Japan for a year, Takénobu learned to sing and play at the same time. He tours regularly and is constantly evolving his music.
“You killed it!!! Not that I doubted, but SO worth the 12 hour drive to get here. Now, play Chicagoland!!! My roomie and I have couches and coffee galore! Thanks for an excellent night” – Kim Volmer, via facebook
Since the age of 18, Takénobu has gone beyond the classical genre by branching out into bluegrass, blues, and other non-traditional cello music. You can hear Takénobu regulary over the speakers at the Wild Bean. Our favorite song is: “Beggars Can’t Be Choosers.”
“Absolutely loving your music after discovering it through listening to a Penguin Cafe Orchestra playlist on Pandora Radio. Hope you decide to fly over to the UK to put on a show one day soon” – Will Evans, via facebook.
Takénobu is always exploring new ways to use the rich sound and dynamic range of the cello to make new, interesting, and beautiful music. Pandora internet radio is a big fan and has been very supportive of him. They introduce his music to new people daily. “It’s amazing that there are so many people who make a conscious effort to support independent musicians. It’s because of this support that I can continue to make new music for people to enjoy,” says Takénobu.
Mark this show in your google calendar, show up, and tell ‘em LBSPY sent you. Tickets are just $9 in advance and $12 at the door. For more info on Takénobu, visit: takenobumusic.com and facebook.com/TakenobuMusic. Wild Bean is located at 119 E. Washington St. Lewisburg, 645-3738
