BACON SHORTAGE

Have you heard that there is going to be a bacon shortage? Anything that prevents me from getting my hands on some delicious, salty bacon is really more of a crisis than a shortage, if you ask me. The official story is that droughts have caused poor harvests of feed crops, and pig herds have thinned out as a result. It almost brings a tear to my eye. You see, bacon and I go way back. I’ve loved bacon since before it was trendy. Since before the first hipster tattooed a mustache on her finger or the zombie apocalypse seemed like it might be a plausible extinction even. Now that I think about it, the zombie scenario is fine by me, because a world without bacon is a world I don’t really want to be a part of, anyway. I can’t think of a food that isn’t improved by the addition of bacon (the same goes for cheese, but that’s a story for another time). Actually, I read this morning that the bacon crisis is overblown, and we’ll simply see a rise in cost for pork next year. But, if you don’t mind, I’ll just forget about that last bit – I finally have an excuse to fill my freezer with bacon!
