Tee into Fall at the Elk’s Country Club in Lewisburg! This facility is open to the public and after one visit, you will quickly realize this is where golf, dining, and social events are more than a past time… it’s a way of life. You can fulfill all your recreational needs not only with eighteen great holes of golf, but also a centrally located clubhouse which houses the pro shop and locker rooms; the Dutch Haus Restaurant which serves steaks, cold beer, and has a spectacular deck overlooking the golf course; an outdoor swimming pool; and a special banquet room to host your next party! The Lewisburg Elks Country Club is situated in the heart of historic Lewisburg, West Virginia. It is located on Brush Road, just 1/2 mile north of interstate 64 on US Route 219.
Visit as a guest and hit 18 holes with a golf cart! It’s only $36 Monday-Thursday and $40 Friday-Sunday. 9 holes and a cart is $21 everyday. To view golf membership rates, visit lewisburgelkscc.com. The Elk’s facility dates back to the 1930’s when the first 9 holes were constructed. The second 9 holes were added in the 60’s. What make this course unique are the challenging fast greens. Superintendents Mathew Watkins and Frank Watkins take great pride in the speed of the greens and the conditions of the golf course. The front side is the shorter of the two nines, but its fairways are much narrower and each hole is tree lined down the left and right. The 5900 total yardage for eighteen holes is short by modern standards but the course plays deceptively tough.
“We had a group of 20! Course was in excellent shape!! Roy took great care of us and Jesse was an extra bonus!!! Thanks from the Richmond Va group!!” – Peter Shinholser
South African professional golfer Rory Sabbatini has enjoyed the Elk’s course. Popular country singers Tracy Lawrence, Justin Moore, and Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish have also appreciated these greens. Not only does the Elk’s draw big names, but it also hosts several big tournaments such as the 2016 West Virginia Senior Ladies Amateur, The Men’s West Virginia Amateur Qualifier, and the West Virginia Open Qualifier. Additionally, the club is very active among our community’s youth with events like the Callaway Junior Tour, Rules seminars, and the West Virginia First Tee Program.
Roy Painter (pictured above w/ Christina Entenmann, HashtagWV photographer) is the club’s golf pro and he’s held this position for 14 years. He offers private lessons, group lessons, and clinics. He also runs a junior golf program that goes from April to the end of September, called the First Tee Program. Roy feels this is a great program for our youth because they learn life skills and values through the game of golf. These skills can then be used in their daily lives.
“Roy Painter, golf pro, is a great teacher for The First Tee! And my son and husband love playing golf there. Friendly staff as well!” – Sonia Ryder
If you are on the search for golf equipment to improve your game, the pro shop carries the latest Callaway drivers, irons, wedges, and putters. What makes this pro shop stand out is that members and guests can trade old equipment toward any current Callaway equipment. They also use the latest equipment for teaching and club fitting! The system is Trackman, which is a launch monitor that tracks the golf ball and V1 sports Video analysis. Trackman explains the player’s game by allowing them to see their swings.
“I am an Elk and a member at the Elk’s for 26 years. Their golf course is very nice, well maintained, and player friendly. Hitting on these greens will help you improve your game at other courses.” – Buck Steele.
Open everyday and always serving lunch under $7, the Country Club Grille features some very popular dishes among golfers and locals coming in for a quick bite with co-workers and friends. There’s the Build your Own Extreme Burger which offers toppings of your choice. Another favorite is the Grilled BBQ Chicken Sandwich. This hearty sized chicken breast is topped with an all-natural Bluegrass Gourmet Sauce made in Summersville, West Virginia. The Country Club Steak Sandwich has also won several appetites. This sandwich is covered with green peppers, onions, and cheese. During Taste of our Town (TOOT) this October, you will be able to sample these foods along with their popular dessert, Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Mug!
Daily, the Grille’s bar offers drink specials from award winning IPAs to Frozen margaritas to sangria’s. They carry the award winning Vienna Lager and Eight Point IPA from Devils Backbone Brewing Company from Roseland Virginia. To accompany these draft beers they stock Bud Light and Michelob Ultra. They pride themselves on having the coldest beer in town as each beer is served with an ice cold frozen 16 oz glass. If you are in the mood for a specialty drink, some popular ones include the Scooby Snack, Happy Gilmore – for lemonade and ice tea lovers, Washington Apple Martini, and the Raspberry Mule… refreshing!
The Grille has started Sunday Brunch and it features three meats, eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, fruit, and much more. The price for the buffet is $14.95 and kids are $9.95. This is served every Sunday from 11am to 3pm. For larger parties, reservations are encouraged by calling ahead.
“Great food, great course and awesome atmosphere. Check it out” – Gary McClung
The Grille is open Sunday-Thursday from 10am to 7pm. Friday and Saturday hours are 10am to 9pm. The Grille’s team members are very friendly, energetic, and strive to enhance your dining and social experience! Becky Black, former owner of the popular Stonehouse General Store in Downtown Lewisburg, manages the Grille. Stonehouse used to be a popular place for delicious home-cooked meals under $10. Becky is delivering this same family style to the Elk’s and her current team includes two cooks: Donie Allen and Mackenzie Allen; the banquet manager is Jessie Rose; bartenders are Mike Shockley, John Swiger, and Jeff Rowsey; and servers are Raechyl Beard, Mackenzie Allen, and Jessie Rose.
The Elk’s also has a Pool and a Pavilion (pictured to the left)! During the summer months, the pool is open to the public 7 days a week from 12-6pm. The fee is just $6 per person. The pavilion is a great place to host a summer event, poolside! Overlooking the golf course, this area is covered and offers 6 tables and 3 grills.
While there are several places to hold an event in the Lewisburg area, consider their banquet facility when you are planning your next special event. The McCue Banquet Hall has 28 tables and can hold up to 350 people. There is also a 25×25 dance floor. The fee for banquet room rental (tables and chairs and the room) is $250.00. Elk’s staff or a licensed caterer may cater parties. The Elk’s gives special thanks to the Lewisburg Rotary Club and the Board of Realtors for hosting their monthly/weekly meetings in the McCue.
Whether you want to enjoy a good golf game over a rolling country side, reserve your next party, or simply relax on the porch of the clubhouse grille and bar, check out the Elk’s!
