The Greenbrier Valley's #1 Source for Food, Music, Shopping, Theatre, and Events!

From the Editor

The holidays are in full swing, and our region is glowing with all the sights, sounds, and charm that make this season truly merry and bright!

Have fond memories of Christmas past? Want to step back into them for a while? Then head to Christmas at The Cedars this month for a joyful, old-fashioned celebration that’s sure to make you feel like you’ve gone “over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house…”

You’ll also want to experience The Magic of Christmas in Lewisburg, where downtown transforms into a wonderland filled with Santa sightings, carriage rides, twinkling lights, and all the traditions that make Christmastime feel so treasured.

And of course, no December is complete without the beautiful holiday shows and concerts scattered across our area. One of the season’s highlights: the Greenbrier Valley Chorale’s Holiday Concert at Carnegie Hall. It’s a timeless annual tradition you won’t want to miss.

This issue is overflowing with all the things that make Christmas in the Valley (and beyond!) such a meaningful time of year. It’s a chance to experience beloved, time-honored traditions, make brand-new memories, and maybe even start some new favorites of your own.

There are parades to enjoy, and Santas and Grinches to meet (depending on whether you’re feeling full-on “fa-la-la-la-la” or just trying not to scowl at the tinsel), shows to catch, and even a brand-new event: the inaugural Winterlight Music Festival at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company, bringing music and brightness to the shortest day of the year on December 21.

And while you’re checking off your Christmas list, don’t forget to shop local. Our small businesses shine especially bright this time of year, offering everything from this season’s most popular finds to one-of-a-kind treasures you won’t discover anywhere else. If you’re thinking outside the box, consider gifting relaxation itself: Mountain Mystic Massage offers soothing services perfect for taking the stress out of the holidays (or giving someone a much-needed breather).

This month’s Unplugged musician is someone I know very well: my mom, Nancy Miller, now a retired Monroe County and Greenbrier County schoolteacher. She began her musical journey in her 30s and has been filling places with her music ever since, often alongside my niece, who started performing a few years ago. And no, I did not inherit any of that musical talent. My own singing is strictly a windows-up, alone-in-the-car situation, with heavy “howling cat meets shattering glass” energy.

December is the perfect time to savor all the joy, holiday spirit, and community our region has to offer. No matter how you celebrate, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in these pages and in The Agenda.

Here’s wishing you and yours all the warmth, joy, and sparkle of the season.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Lisa
