Letter to the Editor

Dear Readers,

Can you believe it’s already December? The year has flown by, and here we are, ready to step into the final chapter of 2024. It’s the month when the world feels a little more magical—when the twinkling lights, the sound of jingling bells, and the spirit of giving fill the air. December is a time for family, celebration, reflection, and, of course, joy. And let me tell you, there’s a lot of joy coming your way this month!

First off, we’ve had the pleasure of connecting with some incredible people from our community, and we can’t wait to share their stories with you. One of the highlights is our Unplugged column featuring Monroe County’s very own Zachariah Elmore. If you haven’t yet experienced his unique blend of independent folk and indie music, now is your chance! Zachariah performs regularly at local venues, and his performances are an absolute treat. His raw, soulful sound is perfect for cozy winter evenings, so be sure to check out his upcoming shows—you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re in the mood for something delicious (and who isn’t when the weather turns chilly?), our Good Eats column will have your taste buds doing a happy dance. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Corn & Flour, a charming bakery in the heart of downtown Lewisburg. Locals rave about their bagels—crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, with a flavor that can’t be beat. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff make it a perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee and a freshly baked treat. Whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast or indulging in a delectable lunch offering, Corn & Flour on North Court Street is the place to be.

And of course, we couldn’t forget to highlight one of the most anticipated events of the season: the Joy to Lewisburg concert, featuring the incredibly talented Bob Thompson, a pianist inducted into the WV Music Hall of Fame. This concert is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit, with classic Christmas tunes, heartwarming performances, and some surprise guest appearances. It’s taking place at the beloved Club Carnegie, and trust me, you don’t want to miss it. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Bob’s or hearing him for the first time, this concert will leave you feeling festive and full of holiday cheer.

As December unfolds, there are endless opportunities to experience the magic of the season. From concerts and parades to festive outings and community gatherings, our county is brimming with holiday spirit. It’s the perfect time to go out, celebrate with family and friends, and make memories that will last a lifetime. As you do, remember the true meaning behind the season: love, kindness, and togetherness.

So, whether you’re enjoying a live performance, savoring a warm pastry, or simply soaking in the holiday cheer, I encourage you to embrace the season. Take time to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the little moments. And most importantly, surround yourself with the people who make this time of year so special.

Wishing you all a blessed, safe, and joy-filled holiday season. Stay warm, stay merry, and let’s make this December unforgettable!

With warm holiday blessings,

Your Editor,

Chelsea Blair
