“176 Keys” features Patrick Summers and John Maddy, two seasoned musicians whose passion for the piano spans genres and decades. Expect an engaging mix of singing, storytelling, and interactive fun, as the duo encourages attendees to sing along and clap to their favorite tunes. From heartfelt classics to lively oldies, this show aims to transport you back in time.
The performance will run for approximately an hour and a half, including an intermission. The first half will feature 35 to 40 minutes of music, followed by a second half of 40 to 45 minutes, ensuring a full evening of entertainment.
Patrick Summers, from Washington, Indiana, who has been playing piano since he was 12, brings a diverse musical background that includes jazz, rock, and musical theater. Having performed in bands that range from Rockabilly to Funk, Swing to Pop and has enjoyed it all. Summers is currently a piano instructor at Washington and Lee University, where he continues to share his love for music. He is also well known for his role as a principal guest conductor at San Fransico Opera from 1999-2016 and Artistic and Music Director at Houston Grand Opera. Summers is said to have assisted in turning the Houston Grand Opera into one of the most innovative companies in the US. “Who knows what’s next?” he teases, hinting at exciting new projects on the horizon.
John Maddy, a lifelong pianist with a master’s degree in piano performance from West Virginia University, adds his own flair to the show. His experience spans a wide array of genres, including Jazz/Fusion, Country, and even 80’s Hair Metal. Maddy is a familiar face in the local music scene, performing with the WV Jazz Orchestra and at The Greenbrier Resort. He also is well-known at Carnegie Hall and Greenbrier Valley Theatre and plays with popular local bands, including Big Shots! (a Billy Joel tribute band) and Decades. He is passionate about all genres of music and is currently an arranger and composer. “I love performing and am very excited to play for the audience,” Maddy shares.
