Good Eats: Sara’s Sweet Treats

The small town of Union has welcomed a new, vibrant place for those of all ages to enjoy delicious treats. Reverand Sara Heino-Bissell of Monroe County has always dreamed of opening her own Ice Cream Shop, now her dreams have come true. Sara’s Sweet Treats opened its doors on Farmer’s Day weekend, welcoming a large crowd of all ages.

Sara believes that incorporating others’ ideas and working together decreases issues among businesses and the community, therefore, she took suggestions from the town to be sure her business is something everyone can enjoy. She wants to be a part of the community and help everyone in any way she can, free delivery to locals being one of the first of her kind gestures through the business. She also added that because children use the shop as a relaxing place to do their homework, she has created a welcoming study area for all children.

As of now you can savor many flavors of ice cream, including soft serve, banana splits, root beer floats, and milkshakes; cake pops, as well as all American favorites such as hotdogs, popcorn, chili, and home cut fries. One of my favorite things about the business is they offer lactose and fat-free ice cream as well as a list of all possible allergens in the treats. I can tell you from experience their lactose and fat-free soft serve is exquisite!

In the very near future, Sara and her team plan to add nachos, mac and cheese, smoothies, coffee, frappes, and much more. Along with additional treats, they will be adding a dart board, tv’s to enjoy football, and wi-fi. You can always enjoy treats year-round, not just during “ice cream season”.

Sara is very confident in her trainee staff of family members and locals, hoping to provide a wonderful environment for all customers. The shop has many wonderful ideas but that’s not all! Soon you will have the opportunity to taste Sara’s Sweet Treats outside of the shop, from their forthcoming food truck.

A grand opening will be held on July 21 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. with face paintings, specials and a few surprises, according to Sara.

You can check out Sara’s Sweet Treats Tuesday-Thursday from 1-6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m. Closing times will extend by an hour if customers are still entering or waiting to be served. Sara and her team encourage you to bring the family and check out their delicious menu!
