Earth Day Fashion Forward Event Celebrates Sustainable Fashion and Appalachian Creativity

Organizers of the annual Earth Day Fashion Forward event in Lewisburg are calling for entries from professional and amateur clothing designers! Award prizes will be given in a range of categories.

Meg Squier, who made a steampunk skirt/coreset made with recycled and thrifted clothes and dyed with natural dyes.  Her design won Most Adventurous in the 2023 show.

The newly refurbished Lewis Theatre on Court St. in Lewisburg is the venue for this year’s event featuring the theme “Garden Party” — think spring, flowers, trees, birds, butterflies, and everything we love about nature! The party starts on April 20 at 3:00 p.m.

Sustainable fashion is a hot trend that features materials that are reused, recycled, and repurposed into beautiful creations that also help reduce waste in our landfills and promote the health of our planet.

As event chair Diane Browning said, “Appalachia has such a rich tradition of thrift and sustainability. As our grandmothers used to say, waste not, want not! It’s only fitting that we’re now seen as leaders and innovators of the sustainable fashion movement.”

Tickets are on sale now, which include admission, food, and drink. Contestant entry form, tickets, and sponsorship opportunities are all available at: edfashionforward.com.

Fashion Forward is an event to celebrate sustainable fashion and raise money for the Blue Skies Ahead Get-Out-The-Vote campaign. This is not a sponsored event of The Lewis.
