Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider’s Annual Harvest Festival Returns

On Saturday, October 7, Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider’s Third Annual Harvest Festival returns to the Lewisburg area. Festivities begin at noon and last until 7:00 pm. The event is FREE, with food and beverages available for purchase. Whether your interests are good food, time honored traditions, live music, or a combination of all three, The Harvest Festival promises lots of activity and fun for all ages.

Jason Nerenberg, Vice President of Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider, spoke about the emphasis on giving attendees a taste of longstanding Appalachian traditions that come with the waning of summer and beginning of the harvest season. This includes a traditional Appalachian pig roast, served with all the fixings. Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider partnered with a couple of local farms and friends to provide the feast for this year’s roast.

The company has been busy harvesting both wild apples and apples from orchards for their cider press, which will be available for participants to try. As Nerenberg says, “Whether you’re an 80-year-old with many years of experience or a kid trying for the first time, pressing cider is always fun.” Fresh pressed cider and a variety of other drinks will be available for purchase. If hard cider isn’t your thing, non-alcoholic fresh pressed cider will also be available for purchase for kids and adults. There will also be a traditional apple butter making demonstration.

The cidery has also partnered with the Greenbrier Fly Fishing classic to host a kids’ fishing derby during the festival.

While they’re enjoying a sip of fresh cider, some barbecue, and taking in the aroma of fresh apple butter, attendees can also listen to live music throughout the day – featuring local artists Caden Glover at 12:00, Adam DeGraff at 2:30, and the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys at 4:30.

If you’re looking for something fun to do before the Harvest Festival, the cidery also recently acquired the Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company.  GVBC’s Grand Opening will be held on September 30 from 12-9 pm. There will be plenty of live music and food trucks for celebrants to enjoy.

Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider is located minutes from downtown Lewisburg, at 2245 Blue Sulphur Pike.
