Lindside is a small place — 600 or so souls — bordering the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests and located on the state line, not far from Concord University in Athens. Linden Deli + More is quickly becoming the heart and soul of this community, a family-run operation that officially opened their doors on May 17th. Owned by Byron and Gina Mann, the store is cozy and embraces warm tones and textures with a pallet board wall and tin barn ceilings.

If you’re planning a fire pit with the kiddos, grab a ready-to-go smores bundle!

Since opening, the local response has been very supportive and everyone in town pretty much stops in every few days. Because of the support from locals as well as travelers, the variety on the shelves continues to grow. BONUS: If you’re planning a fire pit with the kiddos, grab a ready-to-go smores bundle!

Plan to grab a sandwich or wrap to-go…

Located on Rt 219 across from the Exxon gas station, you can find a large variety of baking supplies including whole wheat and all-purpose flours, melting chocolates, molasses, and extracts. There are spices from around the world, gravy mixes, beans, pastas, nuts, candies, snack mixes, apple butters, jams, jellies, oats, vinegars, salsas, canning supplies, as well as bath soaps by Laurel Creek Soaps in Peterstown. The store also offers sugar free and gluten-free options.

Plan to grab a sandwich or wrap to-go as the deli offers a wide array of Amish meats including roast beef, turkeys (Cajun, oven-roasted, smoked), hams (black forest, honey, Virginia smoked), corned beef, salamis, pastrami, pepper loaf, chicken (buffalo or rotisserie), bolognas (deli, German, Lebanese). The cheeses don’t disappoint either as there’s a nice variety of cheddar (mild, sharp, smoked), Colby, Havarti (regular of dill), Bermuda onion, American, green onion, Swiss, mozzarella, pepper jack, pepperoni, provolone (regular or smoked). Sandwiches are served on Texas toast and you can order it toasted. Wraps are served on white or wheat with the option to have it heated. Bacon, condiments, and veggie toppings are optional.

There’s also a freezer stocked with burger and sausage meat provided by Mann’s Meat Processing.

If you need groceries for the house or cabin, you can order the meats and cheeses by the pound and definitely check out their fully stocked coolers. They are filled with cheeses and spreads, as well as potato salad, macaroni salad, buffalo chicken dips, butters, cream cheese, and local eggs from Ballard. There’re also ready-made salads to go!

Just in time for the season, Linden Deli is carrying pumpkin fudge cups and Fall candies.

There’s also a freezer stocked with burger and sausage meat provided by Mann’s Meat Processing, a butcher shop just down the road specializing in deer, beef, and hog. It’s owned by Byron’s son, Zach Mann. Learn more on page 6.
