Mtn Scene: International Foods in the Valley

Eat your way around Greenbrier Valley one meal at a time this Fall. From French to Korean, there are some nice local options of international foods in the area. Here is a list of available choices. In honor of Taste of our Town (TOOT), held Saturday, October 12 in downtown Lewisburg (see article, page 18), follow your taste buds to get an idea of the incredible variety and deliciousness of the valley’s varied landscape, no airfare required. Here is a list of international dining options in the valley:

Located in downtown Lewisburg, The French Goat is a French-style bistro. They offer a menu of classic French dishes with a twist, an eclectic and quality wine list, and handcrafted cocktails. On Thursday, October 10th, they invite you to celebrate all things Burgundy with a Wine Dinner. Burgundy (Bourgogne in French) is a historic and highly respected wine region in eastern France. This area has a rich cultural heritage, exciting culinary experiences, and a history dating back to Roman times. This will be a 5-course dinner preceded by passed hors d’ oeuvres and a delightful Burgundian sparkling wine. The evening begins at 6:30 PM, and you will be joined by the restaurant owners’ good friend Mike Kotrady who represents Kysela, Pere et fils, one of the nation’s premier importers of French wine.

The Goat’s Chef Gustard has created a stellar pairing of food and wine to delight your palate which includes Terrine de Porc a la Campagne (country pork terrine…), Tartare de Boeuf (beef tartar, quail egg yolk…), Canard l’orange (crispy skin duck breast…), and so much more. The margaritas are perfection and the tacos are spicy at Thunderbird Taco. This little taco shop is located in downtown Lewisburg and offers a fun environment with a relaxing vibe.  The menu is original ranging from signature tacos, burritos, salads, guacadillas, steak and egg plates, quesadillas, and more. Bonus: their meat mottos is to use local beef and chicken for our community and our well-being. Stop to eat on Del Sol’s patio on any afternoon and you will not be disappointed. The area is shaded and surrounded by beautiful flowers. The Latin American food is just as excellent. The menu offers several tasty dishes including a soup of the day, a variety of salad bowls, quesadillas, burritos, tacos, specialty sandwiches, specialty burgers, flavorful pizzas, and a full bar. Hashtag Lewisburg City Paper writer Jason Scott says The Humble Tomato is “a real treasure nestled amongst the Appalachian Mountains. Wonderful service + ambiance. Can’t recommend it enough.” The Italian menu includes salads with house made dressings, pastas, a large variety of sandwiches, calzones, a full bar, and several pizzas made with fresh dough. Monday is $5 margaritas and ½ off Margherita Pizzas. Every Sunday, brunch is served from 11a-4p and the menu includes a Bacon Breakfast Pizza. On Friday and Saturday nights, they invite you to “After Hours” from 9-11pm where they have $2.50 slices, $4 well, $2 PBR, and $5 drafts. Bonus: Delivery! The entrees are delicious and the portion sizes never disappoint at Carlito’s Mexican Restaurant. They offer all-you-can-eat chips and salsa, jumbo margaritas, cold beers, and a large variety of entrees with vegetarian options. Bonus: Go there when it’s your birthday and the staff will grace your head with a giant sombrero. They are located in Greenbrier Valley Mall on Rt 219 S. in between downtown Lewisburg and Fairlea. If you’re in the mood for an all-you-can Chinese buffet, head to China Palace. Create your own salad at their fresh and vibrant salad bar, or try some piping hot homemade soup. Are you in the mood for sushi? They offer sushi rolls for dinner. The large buffet includes hot stir fry, excellent options for the little ones, and desserts. You’ll surely get your money’s worth. There’s also Bubble Tea and a full menu which is a great choice when dining in or takeout. Bonus: China Palace is open holidays. They are located at 1615 N. A trip to Fujiyama would not be complete without a little sake tasting. This restaurant offers an extensive sushi menu such as the Bayridge Roll, New York Roll, Mexican Roll, Tokyo Roll, Lobster Roll, and the list goes on. They also offer hibachi dinners, house specialties, entrees for little ninjas, beer, wine, and cocktails. They are located at 250 Piercy Dr. in Lewisburg. Call 304-647-3888.

A warm and welcoming smile awaits you every visit at Silver Dragon which serves Chinese cuisine. Eat in or takeout, some local favorites include the garlic roast pork, chicken wings, soups, and fried rice. Serving sizes are generous and there are lots of vegetarian options. Sample Pacific Rim cuisines at In-Fusion. Located inside the Casino at The Greenbrier Hotel. this restaurant features a unique Sushi Bar and foods from Thailand, Korea, China, Japan. Step into a comfortable Italian restaurant with a lovely décor that showcases murals of Italy and checkered table cloths accompanied by traditional music and savory aromas. Located in the north entrance of The Greenbrier Hotel, The Forum features classically authentic dishes for the American palate. They have a wide variety of starters, soups, salads, pastas, and entrees. Some dishes include the Seared Bay of Fundy salmon, grilled Atlantic swordfish, chicken piccata, and seared mushroom scallops. For really good Italian and Greek foods, check out Alfredo’s. Their extensive menu features hot and cold subs, Alfredo’s famous lamb or chicken gyros, calzones, Stromboli, pastas, wings, pizzas, and desserts. They offer lunch specials, delivery, and catering. The pizzas are hot at Bella Italy. Some favorites include the garlic knots, subs, breadsticks lasagna, meatlovers pizza, calzones, burgers, homemade chili. Eat, carry out, or have your order delivered. They are located 789 Main St. E. in White Sulphur Springs. Call 304-956-2566.

If you are looking for a fresh salad bar and Italian food, stop into April’s Pizzeria. This is a casual eat-in restaurant with reasonable prices and generous portions. Some popular dishes include the fried pickles, Ruben, onion rings, and Sicilian crust pizzas. Bonus: Fresh dough pizza and quality sauce. This is a solid place all around. They are located at 705 E.
