One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with fans, what could possibly go wrong? This May, Greenbrier Valley Theatre, the state professional theatre of West Virginia, presents Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors. This hilarious farce will have you on the edge of your seat and doubling over in laughter.
This play is the amusing sequel to Ken Ludwig’s Tony award-winning comedy Lend Me a Tenor. Following suit with its screwball comedy feel, the intricately entangled plot includes mistaken identities and hilarious misunderstandings. Set in an elegant 1930s Paris hotel suite, the play continues the story of an opera tenor, Tito, and his wife, Maria, as well as a short-tempered general manager, Henry, and his patient assistant, Max. Scrambling to find a replacement tenor shortly before a massive performance, Max and Henry find Carlo, who is dating Tito and Maria’s daughter. A mistaken affair ensues, an easily distracted bellhop is cast as a tenor replacement, and chaos takes center stage.
“Laugh after laugh greets one improbable scene after another. Ludwig knows no ridiculous limits.” -BroadwayWorld.com
