Out & About: Real Christmas Trees Bring Real Joy w/ Crickmer Farms

Real Christmas trees bring real joy! The warm tradition, joyful scent and natural beauty that simply cannot be manufactured. This holiday season, enjoy a relaxed, fun, memory-making visit to Crickmer Farms. The farm offers pre-cut Christmas trees, or the opportunity to cut-your-own (bring your own saw or borrow one at the farm). To celebrate the season of gratitude, we are giving away a fresh cut, 7 ft. Fraser Fir Christmas tree! This will be HashtagWV City Paper’s 4th Annual Christmas Tree Giveaway. Last year’s winner was Daniel Guzman. Congrats Daniel! Our chosen supplier is again Crickmer Farms from Danese, West Virginia. Family owned and operated since 1978, current owners Al (pictured above with Christina Entenmann and Audrina E) and Louise Tolliver are excited to invite you to their farm to prepare for Christmas. They will have a Christmas Store, award winning wreaths, swags, garland center pieces, Christmas decorations, tree skirts, and lots of holiday items. They will also have a “Kids Only” section where the kids can shop for mom and dad (nothing over a dollar. There will be hot chocolate and candy canes for them as well). Over the last six years this farm, on behalf of the WVCTGA, has proudly provided the Governor’s mansion Christmas Tree. Stop in from November 17 until December 21. Hours are Wednesday-Sunday, from 9am-5pm and closed on Thanksgiving Day. Remember! They close at dark on the farm.

Set on 70 acres, the farm grows beautiful Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, and Serbian Spruce. There are approximately 35 areas planted with a variety of conifers. They plant 1,500 to 2,500 seedlings per year. The farm primarily focuses on quality Fraser Fir Christmas trees, fresh wreaths and other holiday decorations. They are listed in West Virginia’s “Choose-And-Cut” Christmas Tree Farms, see

Why choose a real tree over artificial? Research shows artificial trees have three times the amount of impact on climate change and resource depletion compared to a real tree. Real Christmas trees are homegrown on local farms employing many farmers across the country not manufactured from petroleum-based resins and unregulated overseas companies. Christmas trees are an agriculture crop that is sustainable for the long term. Artificial trees can remain in land-fills for centuries.

It’s Christmas. Keep it real. To enter the Christmas Tree Giveaway, your mission is to find Elmer Fudd hunting a Thanksgiving turkey. When you find him, email us at Deadline to enter is Thanksgiving (Nov 22, 2018). The winner will pick up the tree at a TBA location in Lewisburg. Good luck! For more info about the farm, visit
