Written by the man who brought you The Marvelous Wonderettes, Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) in downtown Lewisburg delivers a country-western celebration bringing together two women determined to have a good time. Wash your worries away as they will keep you entertained with great hits like “Stand By Your Man,” “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’” and “Wide Open Spaces” all while keeping you clean and fresh. Honky Tonk Laundry starts Thursday, August 23 and runs until Saturday, September 8th. Best of all, local musicians will take the stage during this play. “We’re pit musicians without the pit!” says GVT Musical Director Kermit Medsker (pictured below) about himself and his fellow musicians who will play in this summer’s Honky Tonk Laundry.
Similar to last year’s The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On, this musical is written and created by Roger Bean. It features live music performed by the show’s two singing stars, Taylor Galvin and Casey Gilbert. They will be accompanied by a five-piece band featuring Medsker on the keyboards, Billy Ayers on drums, Shane Allen on guitar, Jay Frye on bass, and Don Drummer on steel guitar. These musicians will create the musical backdrop of this country-fried musical extravaganza.
Medsker, who has performed with these musicians in many GVT productions over the years, says that each of the musicians are able to learn the music quickly. The band will feature classic country hits from Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn along with contemporary favorites such as the Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride.
Fans of musicals and country-western music are certainly in for a treat this summer. Don’t miss Honky Tonk Laundry at GVT! For showtimes and dates, see Hashtag Lewisburg’s AGENDA.
