Acting Out: In Honor of Hollywood’s HeyDay!

This June, Greenbrier Valley Theatre in downtown Lewisburg, the state professional theatre of West Virginia, proudly presents A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine. This musical extravaganza will run 7-9, June 14-16 and June 20-23 at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee performance on June 16 at 2:30 p.m. (pictured above: Actors, Edward Tolve and Krystal Bly)

This play is a hilarious double feature simultaneously tipping its hat to Hollywood’s Golden Age and to the Marx Brothers’ comic genius. With a first act filled with songs from the 1930s and the second act a hilarious retelling of Chekhov’s The Bear, this farce is sure to keep you laughing. “It is not like anything I have ever done,” said GVT’s Resident Music Director Kermit Medsker, who also described it as the “funniest thing I’d ever seen.”

It’s only fitting that this quirky comedy would attract new and diverse talent. Two such actors are Edward Tolve and Krystal Bly, as Carlo and Mrs. Pavlenko, respectively. A dancer for over 20 years, Tolve’s past shows include Sayonara, Funny Face and Car Talk: The Musical!!! Currently, he is a teaching artist at his alma mater, Laguardia Arts.

Bly is an opera singer, a graduate of New England Conservatory of Music and her diverse resume makes her a great pick for this show. Past favorites include the Florida Renaissance Festival as the Columbina of the Commedia Dell’arte troupe, The Commedia Madrigal Singers and Desdemona in Othello.

These are just two members of an outstanding cast, and, along with their costars, they will bring the wonder and magic of the early days of Hollywood to Lewisburg, and the patrons of GVT.

Tickets are $30 for general admission, $27 for seniors and $20 for children/students. For tickets or more information, call GVT’s Box Office at 304-645-3838 or visit
