July 13-17: Durbin Days Heritage Festival!

The mountain air is cool and the waters are clear. This July, get outside in the wild and wonderful to enjoy 5 days of family carnival, delicious food, live music and more at the 29th Annual Durbin Days Heritage Festival!  This event is held in on the Main Street of Durbin, WV in Pocahontas County from Wednesday July 13 to Sunday, the 17th.

Daily attendees will partake in Myers amusement family carnival, bingo, food, vendors set up around town, and special events.

On Wednesday, the Pet Show, Greased Pig Event, and Karaoke will give a full evening of enjoyment.

Thursday’s events include the Cake Walk, the Hay Bale Toss, and Joseph Hott and the Short Mountain Boys on stage.    

Friday features an arts/crafts/yard sale, an Archery Shoot, a Fireman’s Parade hosted by the BFD Fire Department, and live music by Richard Hefner and the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys.

The celebration continues on Saturday the 16th starting at 9am. There will be several events including a 5k Run/Walk, Horseshoe and Cornhole Tournaments and Arts/Craft/Yard Sale. The 2nd Annual Car Show will be held at Fire Hall and throughout the day, children are invited to hang out at the Durbin Community Library for fun activities both inside and out.  There will also be an Old-Time Music Jam, a Barbequed Chicken Dinner, a Grand Feature Parade, Tug-o-War, a Dunking Booth, live music by Johnny Staats Project and Nina Sharp, and an “Incarcerate a Friend” Dime Pitch. Local DDHF officers do this fake arrest as they are on a mission to help raise money to continue the festival. A Fireworks Show will light up the sky at 10pm.

On Sunday check out the Community Covered Dish Meal under the big tent on the field and then enjoy local Gospel Music!

For accommodations check out the East Fork Campground, Lodging & Stables, Station 2 Restaurant & Lodging, Greenbrier Suites, or the Boyer Motel. During the festival, you are encouraged to enjoy the many outdoor activities Pocahontas County has to offer. And a few places worth visiting include a ride on The Durbin Greenbrier Valley Railroad and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank.
