when pigs fly oct 2013

On Friday, November 15th, our favorite pig shack (ie When Pigs Fly BBQ) will be celebrating its 1 year anniversary in its brick and mortar establishment located in Fairlea/Lewisburg near Greenbrier Motors. The first 50 patrons will receive FREE cake provided by B. Sweet Confectionery and FREE Homestead Creamery ice cream. If you would like to start celebrating right now, we invite you to partake in our LBSPY PIG SHACK RAFFLE to WIN DINNER for 2 (excludes alcohol). Find the 3rd flying pig inside LBSPY #45 (could be anywhere from pages 2-16). When you find it, email us at info@lbspy.com and tell us where you found it. Deadline to enter: Wednesday, November 13th at midnight. (more info, page 3 of LBSPY #45 print issue)

If you’re wondering how the Pig Shack got started, here’s the story… The idea to launch this restaurant started during the winter of 2005-2006 by owners Mike and Kellen. With a shared interest in learning the ins and outs of specialty barbeque and launching a business behind it, Mike learned to smoke meat while Kellen perfecting recipes for sauces and rubs. By February 2006, the duo were ready to begin construction on their Pig Shack trailer. The trailer was essentially converted from a flatbed farm trailer into a mobile bbq unit by Mike and his son Josh. Nothing like doing it yourself (D.I.Y) as we believe here at LBSPY. After lots of late nights and hard work, the shack was open for business on April 1st, 2006, located at 219 North in Lewisburg in the lot now home to Fortunate Finds and across from Colonial Ford. As with the way most new business owners feel, Mike and Kellen were broke, scared, and full of hope. Today, they are 7 years in with over a hundred festivals under their belts and a provider to 10’s of 1000’s of happy patrons.
