A Woman, a Story, & A Life In-Between: First Day of School by Tiffany Blair

Well, the State Fair of West Virginia is back in town and that can only mean one thing. No, not deep fried Oreos (which are delicious, by the way). It means that summer is coming to an end already. All too soon, I’ll be back to complaining about the cold and sliding my way across icy parking lots. Before that, though, many people will take to various social networks to reflect with sadness upon watching their children leave the house for the first day of school. I have to wonder, though – are these parents really so sad? Maybe they think they’re supposed to be sad, when really they’re pretty excited. I think the first day of school should be a secret holiday for parents. Go to the movies with friends, or just stay home and eat ice cream all day. Between 8AM and 3PM, you can just go wild. Jump on the bed if you want to! Just remember that the first rule of the First Day of School is you don’t talk about the First Day of School. A few knowing glances will tell your buddies all they need to know about where they can find you when the time comes. You can still throw in a few tears for the kids as a red herring if you like. I won’t tell.
