Victory is Mine! by Tiffany Blair

It would appear my indulgent lifestyle is finally catching up with me. I had some blood work done last week and the results were less than stellar. I need to lose weight, I have high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and an elevated liver something-or-other (Who, me? Couldn’t be!). My doctor wants me to really buckle down and work on getting healthy for my six-month checkup and I have to admit that I think I really needed the reality check. Aside from making the obvious changes to my diet, I decided to kick my workouts up a couple of notches. The problem is, I also have arthritic knees and adhere to a strict “I don’t run unless somebody’s chasing me” philosophy. So, what do I do? I immediately sign up for a 5K. I have until June to get my butt in gear, assuming I can find some gear my butt will fit into. In my mind’s eye, I’ll emerge onto the course strong and determined and end gracefully, striding across the finish in serene triumph. In reality, though, I’ll probably be a sweaty, hot mess, limping to the end with a miserable case of shin splints. But, I’ll finish – one way or another. Victory is mine!
