Historic Cemetery Tours Return to Old Stone Cemetery for Halloween
There are some stories that just feel a little different after dark.
This October, Greenbrier Historical Society and Carnegie Hall, WV are bringing back their popular Historic Cemetery Tours, and this year, we’re teaming up with Greenbrier Valley Theatre to make the evenings even more memorable.
As the sun sets over Old Stone Cemetery, the history of our community comes to life in a whole new way. Local performers will step into the roles of people from Greenbrier Valley’s past, sharing their stories among the stones where they were laid to rest.
You’ll meet people who lived, worked, raised families, built businesses and helped shape the community we know today. There will be plenty of fascinating history, some wonderful theatrical flair and, of course, just enough mystery to make you wonder what you might see out of the corner of your eye.
Don’t worry. We’re not promising ghosts.
We’re just saying… keep an eye on the shadows.

While You’re in the Neighborhood…
If you’re coming into town for a cemetery tour, why not make an evening of it?
Stop by the North House Museum and take a look at GHS’s temporary exhibition, The Good Death: Mourning Culture in Victorian America.
Opening October 2 at 5 p.m. during our First Friday Lecture Series, “Friday Night Frights: Family Friendly Ghost Stories from WV,” The Good Death will be on display through November 7. The exhibition explores the fascinating ways Victorian Americans mourned and remembered their loved ones.
The North House Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the exhibit will also be open during the evenings of the Historic Cemetery Tours.
And on October 29… Bring the Kids!
If you’re downtown for Lewisburg’s Harvest Chills in the Hills Boo Bash (Business Trick-or-Treat) on Thursday, October 29, be sure to stop by the North House Museum between 5 and 7 p.m.
We’ll have treats for the kiddos, and you’ll have a chance to explore The Good Death before heading off to the cemetery for the 7 p.m. tour.
So you can trick-or-treat, learn a little history, take in an exhibit, and then spend the evening listening to stories from Greenbrier County’s past.
Honestly, that’s a pretty good October night. A little history, a few good stories, and some Halloween fun. What more could you ask for?
