The Family Refuge Center (FRC) will host its 5th Annual Elder Abuse Awareness Walk on Thursday, June 18th, at the CAMC Greenbrier Valley Hospital Track. The event continues FRC’s commitment to raising awareness about elder abuse and promoting prevention strategies throughout the community.
Elder abuse affects an estimated 1 in 10 older Americans each year, though many cases go unreported. FRC aims to shine a light on this often-hidden issue and empower community members to recognize the signs and take action.
“Our Elder Abuse Awareness Walk is an opportunity to educate, support, and stand with older adults in our region,” said the Abuse in Later Life Advocate at FRC. “By coming together, we can strengthen community awareness and help prevent abuse before it occurs.”
This year’s walk will again feature a team challenge, inviting groups of five to compete for the most laps completed. Individuals may also participate. Registration is open to all community members.
