A Royal Fundraiser: Queen of Hearts at the Sportsman Tavern

Luck, laughter, and community spirit come together every week at the Sportsman Tavern on Edgar Avenue in Ronceverte, where the Queen of Hearts fundraiser draws an eager crowd. Held to support Jardin Mini Golf, this ongoing raffle gives participants a chance to win cash prizes while contributing to one of the Greenbrier Valley’s most creative new attractions.

The concept is simple: tickets are $2 each and can be purchased at the Sportsman Tavern throughout the week during open hours. Every Saturday at 7 p.m., one lucky ticket is drawn. If the winning ticket-holder draws the Queen of Hearts, they take home half the pot, which often grows into the thousands. If the Queen isn’t drawn, the game continues and the pot rolls over to the next week, keeping the excitement alive.

“The Queen of Hearts drawings are family-friendly,” said Phyllis Cantrell, Executive Director of Gateway Industries. “People come out for food, fun, and good company. It’s something everyone can enjoy, and it’s helping us finish Jardin Mini Golf, which is going to be a wonderful addition for the community and for tourism in the Greenbrier Valley.”

Located in Ronceverte, Jardin Miniature Golf will be more than just a recreation spot. It’s a local labor of love. Phyllis explained that the proceeds from the raffle will help maintain and expand the course, which features beautiful lighting, accessible design, and holes inspired by local history. “We’ve still got a ways to go,” she said, “but we’re about three-fourths of the way finished, and people are already so excited to see it.”

The Queen of Hearts raffle continues each week at the Sportsman Tavern. Whether you’re there for the thrill of the draw or simply to enjoy the community atmosphere, each ticket helps bring a little more light, a little more connection, and a lot more fun to Ronceverte.
