“The absolute Best place on the mountain. The chef is amazing…his food is incredible. The service is fantastic. ….They everything is scratch, and the twice baked lobster potato is soooooo good. I got that as my app, and then had it with my steak. A thing of beauty. I will be going there every time I’m in Snowshoe.” – Sherry. Denver, NC.

For several years, Chef James of South Mountain Grille, trained under Chef Margaret Ann Smith Ball, who is the former proprietor of the once renowned Red Fox, and a culinary icon to Snowshoe. Chef James has incorporated his extensive knowledge from the Red Fox into the menu at South Mountain. He prides himself in working with small farmers as purveyors to provide you with organic and grass-fed food.

If you happen to be staying in Soaring Eagle Lodge, which many consider Snowshoe’s most luxury lodging option, you’ll find South Mountain Grille easily accessible, as it’s located right inside. There’s also heated underground parking, and plenty of additional parking outside, which proves to be very convenient and useful for the restaurant’s patrons. In addition, if you find yourself looking for a location to hold a sizeable social gathering on the mountain, be sure to book the Rebar room. This is an excellent space for large private parties, with reservations recommended in advance.

While modern and chic, South Mountain Grille offers a comfortable dining experience for all guests. Because the restaurant is located at the crest of the abundant black diamond territory, and accessed by the Soaring Eagle lift, you may very well find yourself walking in from the slopes, complete with snow attire. No worries! The staff will be more than happy to serve you while you’re sporting your gear after an adventurous day in the snow.

“By far the nicest and classiest restaurant on the mountain. It’s a few minutes up from the village, but worth the drive. It has a great atmosphere and great customer service,” – Nellie J. Columbia, SC.

The concept behind South Mountain Grille was to create a restaurant that the staff would want to visit and dine. The restaurant needed to have creative menu, an extensive wine list, and knowledgeable servers who could properly pair your meal with the right wine. Also, the menu is financially approachable to all patrons, including children. All children’s meals are under $11.

The restaurant also serves brunch every Sunday from 11-3pm, and at 1pm there’s a full bar. South Mountain Grille has the only brunch on the mountain. If you get an extended Sunday checkout, this is a great way to end your vacation. They have a featured benedict of the day, with past selections featuring such ingredients as scampi, rockfish, and florentine.
