April 26: Run, Paddle & Bike in the Hills

greenbrier river race

Come one, come all to the 28th Annual Great Greenbrier River Race held on April 26th in Marlinton, West Virginia. Beginning in the Municipal Park in town, this Mini-Trithlon is hosted every year on the last Saturday of April, while the weather is still a little cool and there is still plenty of water in the Greenbrier River.

Kicking off at 11am, participants run, canoe paddle, and bike a total of 17 miles. There’s a three-mile run on the Greenbrier River Trail, a four-mile canoe paddle down the Greenbrier River, and ten-miles of biking to Buckeye, then back to Marlinton. While this “mini” triathlon can make you work up a sweat, there’s tracks for everyone’s ability.

This course is designed to accomodate participants of all ages, from youth to senior. You can partake as a solo athlete or gather the family and bring the dog. Everyone in your canoe will thoroughly take in the breathtaking landscape of Pocahontas county, also known as Nature’s Mountain Playground.

After the race, you are all encouraged to stay for the after party, live music, food, and awards ceremony. You’ll get to socialize and share tales of triumph and woe while awaiting the results of the awards.

This event is positive on so many levels but most importantly, the proceeds allow the trail association to sponsor various projects to improve and promote the Greenbrier River Trail.

On the 26th, we invite you to grab your friends and family and head down to the river. You’ll enjoy the fresh air, mountain scenery, and possibly get a good workout. Don’t miss out on this incredible event.
