Sat. May 5: Run for the Roses at Derby Day!

The time is fast approaching for Gateway to hold it’s annual fundraising event “Derby Day”. The event, which has been held for 23 years and has become a mainstay in Greenbrier County and surrounding areas, is well recognized and attended, Derby Day takes place on the 1st Saturday in May and coincides with the running of the Kentucky Derby. This year, as in past years, Derby Day will be held on the first Saturday in May at the Cecil Underwood Youth Building at the State Fairgrounds in Fairlea. The event has been growing each year and hosts over 500 people, who come to watch the “Run for The Roses” on large screen TV’s located throughout the venue. The event also has a delicious and endless buffet dinner, as well as beer and wine which is included in the price of admission, a fabulous silent auction, live music by Richard Hefner and the Black Mountain Blue Grass Boys, door prizes, chocolate fountain and a most fabulous Hat contest.

Derby Day is as close as you can get to actually attending the Kentucky Derby and enjoying all the pomp and circumstance that the Kentucky Derby offers.

Local businesses may contact Gateway to advertise at Derby Day. Ads are run on a continuous loop throughout the event. If you wish, any items that represent your business can also be donated and placed into our silent auction. All advertisers and silent auction donations will be graciously acknowledged for their support.  Donations are tax-deductible as, Gateway is an IRS certified non- profit organization, which employs and trains individuals with disabilities.
