Sat. May 19: Our Night to Shine at Masonic Theatre!

STARS (Special Theatrical Artists Revue & Showcase) will perform “Our Night to Shine,” its first variety show of the troupe’s 23rd performance season on stage at the Historic Masonic Theatre on Saturday, May 19, at 7pm.

Under the direction of Paula Crance and Sonja Kimberlin, STARS will perform a variety of skits and songs with Chris Fisher serving as the emcee.

Founded by Appalfolks of America Association (AAA), STARS has performed variety shows at the Historic Masonic Theatre and at other venues while the theatre was closed from 2010 till 2016 for restoration, a $6.5 million project completed by the Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation by July of 2016.

Ray Allen, founder and president of AAA, remarked, “STARS continues to be one of our most important outreaches, and the troupe has grown to 21 performers over the years.”

AAA produced a documentary film about the troupe and the need for the complete restoration of the theatre in 2006, and the documentary film entitled “STARS” won a Bronze Telly that can be viewed in the Clifton Forge Public Library.

Tickets for “Our Night to Shine” are $8, $10 and $15 when purchased in advance and $10, $12 and $17 the day of the show.  Group rates are available for parties of eight or more when tickets are purchased prior to the day of the show.

The Historic Masonic Theatre (circa 1905) is the oldest continually operating theatre in Virginia, and it is fully air-conditioned.  The box office is (540) 862-5655.  Tickets may also be purchased online at historicmasonictheatre.com.

Allen added, “STARS continues to entertain audiences, and the outreach program for the mentally and physically challenged performers has served our community well. WestRock and the Town of Clifton Forge both support STARS,” Allen concluded.
