Sat. July 22: “All about Fly Fishing” Family Fun Day!

On Saturday, July 22, it’s Project Healing Waters’ “All about Flyfishing” Family Fun Day at Mountain Meadow Hunting Preserve in Monroe County, WV! From 11am-9pm, you will learn all about fly fishing while supporting the needs of veterans on their journey to recovery! There will be fly-tying demos, fly-casting demos, kids and adults’ tractor rides, and live music. Other activities include wildlife artist paintings; an outfitters shop will be set up, guided float trip information, therapeutic information on stress relief, and more! You will also enjoy free-range Pulled Pork Sandwiches, sides, and drinks! All are welcome to bring their blankets, lawn chairs, friends, and families to this fun-filled day, which helps Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF). If you are unfamiliar with the group, this is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. “What an awesome program! To be able to go out with fellow veterans and to see the smile it brings to their faces.” – Devin Pauley, via facebook. All proceeds from this event benefit Project Healing Waters.

“Project Healing Waters has given me a support system with a network of other vets who help me through the hardest days. I know I have people to talk to when I am struggling the most.” – PO2 John Jenkins U.S. Navy (Iraq & Afghanistan) – pictured above.

Event organizer, Bettye Earley, started this special event. She tells us her father, who served in the United States Army in WWII Germany, inspired her. She grew up watching him struggle without any outlets for healing. When Bettye learned about Project Healing Waters, she felt it was her time to give back in honor of her father and other United States veterans. Bettye says, “Veterans experience higher rates of homelessness than other groups, they may have a harder time finding jobs despite having relevant skills, and they deal with post-traumatic stress disorder.”

The music lineup will begin with Jonah Carden’s acoustic/grunge/blues/rock show from 11am-1pm with; Walter Salmon will then entertain the crowd with karaoke from 1-5pm; rock band Bicycle plays from 5-7pm; and chicken-fried gospel soul band, The Carpenter Ants, will conclude the day’s festivities with lots of feel good harmonies and a solid groove from 7-9pm.

PHWFF is dependent on tax-deductible, charitable donations and the help of numerous volunteers to meet the educational, equipment, transportation, and related needs of its participants. All chapters are in great need of donations but Bettye chose Project Healing Waters’ Beckley & Parkersburg because they are the closest to our area.

Provide healing to those who serve and check out this fun-filled event at Mountain Meadow Hunting Preserve! Admission is $10/person. Children 10 and under are free! The preserve is located at 364 Mountain Meadow Lane in Greenville, WV.

“Join us on July 22 for a day of patriotism, celebration, and community, at Mountain Meadow Hunting Preserve! Come and help us support disabled veterans and active military!” – Cortney and Brandon White, owners at Mtn Meadow Hunting Preserve.
