Out Loud: A Toast to Music of the Theater, from Opera to Broadway!

The Greenbrier Valley Chorale will devote its spring concert to a celebration of the evolution of music in the theater from opera to Broadway. Performances will be Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg, WV, and Tuesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Masonic Theater in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

The festive concert will include choruses by Verdi and Strauss from La Traviata, Nabucco and Die Fledermaus with guest soloists. The men of the chorale will perform selections from Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta The Pirates of Penzance, and the choir will salute Broadway with favorites ranging from the groundbreaking Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma to the contemporary hits Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd.

The Greenbrier Valley Chorale is directed by Barbara Wygal Lutz with piano accompaniment by Teresa Bryant. More than 50 volunteer singers from throughout the Greenbrier Valley and adjoining counties in Virginia and West Virginia make up the choir, which is known throughout the region for the high caliber of its performances.

The Greenbrier Valley Chorale has a reputation throughout West Virginia for the high caliber of its performances. Singers come from all over Greenbrier County and adjacent counties in WV and Virginia. Chorale members range in age from advanced high school students to retirees.
