Mtn Music Trail: Celebrating Folk Life

The Mountain Music Trail participated in two great events in the Lewisburg area recently: “Mountain Trails Tunes and Ales” at the Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company at Maxwelton March 25, which featured several MMT member bands, and as Main Stage lounge host for the amazing Steel Wheels concert at Carnegie April 8. if you missed the Steel Wheels, you have another chance soon  – they will play at the Purple Fiddle in Thomas, Tucker County Thursday, May 25.

Mountain Music Trail band The Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys will be featured in a live Mountain Stage performance at the Clay Center in Charleston Sunday, May 14, along with Del McCoury and Bela Fleck /Abigail Washburn. Other Mountain Music Trail events in May include:

Friday, May 5 – The Pocahontas County Opera House in Marlinton will rock to the music and dance of  the D&E College Appalachian Ensemble

Saturday, May 6 – You can catch the acoustic stylings of Josiah Spangler and Abigail Reynolds as the band Marguerite performs at Greenbrier Valley Brewing. Check them out at thebandmarguerite.com. And it’s first Saturday Square dance at Helvetia, Randolph county.

Friday, May 12 – Juanita Fireball and the Continental Drifters play a benefit for the Mountain Music Trail at a new event venue, “Blair’s Place” (the former Pretty Penny Cafe) in Hillsboro. Check it out on FB at “Blair’s Place”.

Friday, May 26 – a square dance in Thomas – part of the ART SPRING Memorial Day weekend festival. artspringwv.com

And of course Memorial Day Weekend marks the 412th Annual Vandalia Festival at the state capitol in Charleston, celebrating WV traditional music and folk life.

And coming up next month – Allegheny Echoes Workshops at the Marlinton Motor Inn June 18-23. Six days of non-stop music and lots of great instruction in traditional old time music as well as Bluegrass and writing in beautiful Pocahontas County.
